Ok guy, I'm still on process to become MTB pro so I'm just join Virgin Active and did part of workout on threadmill 10 min, weight machine to strength my leg about 30 pace and cycling on machine for 20 min. I would like to know if it right way to build my fitness for MTB professional? Any advice is welcome. Thank

Only way to build good strong endurance is to get on your bike and go ride.

The longer, the better! That is why roadies are so competitive in MTB these days.

Roadies have become competitive mountain bikers in SA because of our dirt roadie marathon races on offer in SA.... Put a roadie on flat pedals then we will see who a competitive mtbiker is :ninja:

One cannot expect to be able to ride a race that lasts about 3h on 3h worth of training. For that you should be on the bike for at least 4-5h so that you can ride at race pace for 3h and not worry about your fitness letting you down. To be pro you will need a BIG fitness base and that means long hours in saddle.

Yes you can surely use the gym for strength and I would suggest you do plenty of core and stability exercizes because it will help you al lot. But you wont get fit in a gym.

Sure. But for the amount of participants the races are catering for these days you will have a lot of jeep track and dirt roads and that is where they make up time lost in technical sections. It is also much easier for a roadie to learn to ride technical than for a mtb'er to go and train for 4-5h+ on his bike.

Excuse my ignorance but do you want to become a pro in 15-20km races or marathon/ultra marathon (70-110km) races? because the latter is a whole different story to 18km.

I just use the spinning machine at the gym to do Interval training with power output and a bit of weights as well but at least 80% of my training and riding is done on the bike.Thats where all the Fun is.

That why I want to keep my leg strength and fitness during the week as I'm doing in Early morning before work. or during the evening.

Guy, I think what you doing is great! As long as you match your protein... Use protein shakes and do only legs when you go to gym!

You will become a bestes Mtbers SA ever seen. Don't making the mistake and working your arms. It's wanted your time! Trained where it counts, put your timing on the gym in the legs only. Show other bicycle Ryder's wie die kznspyder is!!!! Wys julle boyjtie!

My apology for not clear. I'm beginner as it will be my first race. as I will see how i feel after the finish line then I will move up to 25km and go on. That why what I've mention I'm on process on professional which I'm asking for your advice about gym

Not to be full of ****, but.....

English clearly isn't your first language.

Based on your picture, I might assume that you are Afrikaans speaking?

Why not just post in Afrikaans?

Those that can, will reply in Afrikaans, others that understand may reply in english.

It might make for better communication.

P.S. I mean no ill by this. I know I would battle horribly if I had to post in Afrikaans, never mind any other of the official languages.

Sorry, if my assumption is wrong and your first language is something else and you are doing your best in English. In which case, keep at it :)
