Given the latest robbery/attack at Tokai I was wondering if there is an interest in taking some basic self defence classes.

If anybody would like help or coaching please pm me or reply here, I have a fair amount of experience and can assist with teaching arrest techniques, takedowns, fighting from and on the ground and, in light of the recent incident, how not to get hit with a stick etc.

We are not talking about producing the next Bruce Lee, just some basics that may help you when you are cornered.

Oh and it would be at no cost.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Booked for 1pm Saturday 24th August, Sportshall 3, UCT.

Parking - anywhere you can find on campus, there are two carparks immediately below the sports hall. As usual dont leave anything valuable in your car.

The sportshall is the monolithic 70's looking monstrosity near the entrance (easily seen from the M3).

What to wear - nothing expensive!!, sweat pants or something similar that allows easy movement, rugby jersey or sweatshirt. If its hot a tee-shirt is fine but it might get a bit stretched...

No jewellery if possible (it will get damaged and rings can get caught on clothing).

The session should last for about two hours, although it could last longer if you let me get carried away.

If you cannot make it on this date please let me know and I will try and make other arrangements for you.

Edit - (Please indicate if you responded on FB too)

Pappa Bear has offered to give his time to help with this.

You're right, you are nosey... I fell off my bike. ;)

I can teach you how to roll properly

I've been over the bars twice in the last few weeks (I'm a bit rubbish) and both times rolled back onto my feet.

Granted the second time my sneaky sod of a bike had wised up and just followed me and attcked me from behind...

I swear it hates me.

OK, I'll be the one to spill the beans: He did a huge jump, with a strong tailwind, took off like an Apollo rocket, sailed into low earth orbit, but apon re-entry, came down like the Russian space capsule, minus parachutes and a few miles beyond the expected landing zone.

A jump?

Me I fall off for no apparent reason, now that takes skill and commitment.

I even have a soundtrack, its the sound of a laughing ten year old as he ponders just how stupid and clumsy Dad can be.

Those are the worst, each time it plays back the laughter sounds more demented, I have a few tracks haunting me too but from people I call friends.

Surely your "standing dismount" is worth some cred? C'mon..

Cool I will add you to the list, when we have a few names I will sort out a time/day convenient for everybody.

If we end up with big numbers I can get the sportshall at UCT.

I dont know what style you are (if you still practice), but I know the style I was you will have to get their permission to do something like this expecially if you are at a trainer level....just saying..

I'm sure that sentence makes sense somewhere.. here on earth we like punctuation.

Good question.. permission Mark?
