What is it with car-people driving in low light conditions with only their park lights on? Driving with park lights on is illegal, isn't it?

I would say it is more like a don't give a damn or haven't got a clue thing. A bit like the general road rules knowledge of most of our driving population.

Not sure... but by the sounds of things it may be classed as a Traditional weapon...

Yeah, I agree. I think that's what they think. It really annoys me, especially when its a dark car and it's like 10 minutes till absolute darkness, and the park lights are really small. Poor visibility on the roads is dangerous.

I live where there's a lot of mist, and the number of people driving with only their park lights on in thick mist is amazing, and then they drive fast too. The quicker to get out of the mist I presume.

 

I've given up on being pissed about that, just drive extra cautiously, these people will soon remove themselves from the gene pool anyway.

I drive with my FRONT fog lights on during the day for visibility, headlights turn on automatically when it gets darker.

What does irritate me is when you have the idiots driving with their rear foglights on in the dark for nothing, I then turn my brights on and blind them the same as their blind me

I am fairly active in the car modding community, and maybe can shed some light.

 

Typically, car people (people into modding cars for this thread's sake), feel that the car looks better with just fog lights running in the front and some sort of fancy light setup in the headlights (angel eyes, leds etc). So the phenomenom experienced here is probably that. An idiot running fog lights only because they want their LEDs or something like that to be seen and noticed in their headlight.

 

Personally, I think drivers like that are chops, and a hazard on the road. I drive with just my front fogs and park lights on when the sun is setting and light is beginning to fade. Fogs are fairly bright. But the moment a reasonable human being would warrant use of headlights neccesary, I turn mine on. Screw the fancy LED's. Safety first.

the peeps driving without any lights just after sunset is far worse...they may have night vision and not need lights... but that does not mean i have night vision...

This is my pet hate. No idea why people think that putting their parks on in low light makes a difference. And when they see someone else drive past them with their parks on dont they think " Wow I didnt even notice that person had their lights until the last second. Maybe I should put my lights on properly because people probably cant see my lights iether."

 

Its def not a cultural thing the particular form of stupidity is very wide spread

there should be a law to drive with headlights on all the time (day and night). then there is no argument as to when it is dark enough to switch on lights. also makes visibility much better.
