Did the Transkaroo 240 on Hammer Perpeteum and will be doing the Transbaviaans this weekend on the same stuff. Eating the stuff at the checkpoints is then a bonus, and the Hammer products are 100% natural, so it don't stuff up your stomach. You prepare your bottles per hour I advance - just add water and your good to go. The coffee flavor is my preferred choice and should come in handy for the night riding at TB.

I also roll with the Caffe Latte flavour

A confession of trial and error. The jungle bar (dark chocolate) works nicely. The black cat bar made phlegm. But the worst is a boiled egg.... 10 points for creativity! The yoke got stuck in my throat and took almost all my water and a whole bunch of energy coughing to get rid of it.

Word to the foolish - don't take boiled eggs on a ride.

Just completed the 280km isimangiliso mtb and I rode with 32gi endure in one bottle, water in the other. Food was a bar made by Trek available at Dischem. The peanut and oat is my pick. whole food 100% natural dates raisins raw peanuts soya and more, no added sugars. Worth a try. I must add that fueling for a multi day event is something done at every meal and not just on the bike.

On stage races you eat for tomorrow - Blackcat bars, muffins, droewors and potatoes and then very NB is lots of milk directly post ride. During races I use gels in tubes - in MTB it can be dodgy to fiddle with packaging and on the road the bunch always seem to attack when I think of eating. Remember to open the foil on the tube before the race.

On stage races you just EAT... :) I think I got a good lesson from Louis Knipe on the W2W a couple of years ago - for such a skinny guy he can eat - NEVER seen anyone put so much on a plate and then go back for more...

I've been trying all these gels and whatnot and Hammer works the best for me by far. Going to invest in a tub of the powder this week, caffe latte flavour of course!

Having said that, peanut buttter, jam, and banana rolls sounds good! I notice I get really hungry if I ride for more than 2 hours, even if I'm using Hammer.

I havent seen a post like this, so I dared open this thread to the multitudes of opinions of fellow roadies.

As a general rule I struggle to eat anything while exercising. Its like the pathway between mouth and stomach is closed for the duration of the activity. But, riding for two, three or four hours forces you to recharge dem glutecose in dem muscles.

So after trying snacks and various bars and failing to find something I can eat (and stomach) while riding that doesnt make me nausious or cause a build up of phlem, I appeal to my fellow hubbers. What works for you?

GI32 drink 1 bottle and water in the other, eating while racing Banana/Low GI32 chews/Gonzo gel and nougat all of these work for me. I hate the energy bars they wont go down.

Nothing beats a banana!

That is the truth, I have a problem with Banana's though, about 2hrs into the ride it's warm and too slimy, so I had this very bright idea of wrapping some banana bread and taking that along.. yeah, it turned out not be be a great idea.. will be returning to the gag while chomping banana.
