Most of the track is single track I would say more than 80%. There are some nasty climbs but after every climb there is some breath taking single track. For example after the dead man walking climb there is about a 7 km downhill single track.

The long route is technical but all can be ridden.

PS. ask anyone who has done it and they all say its in the top three mtb races in the cape, come and ride you won't be sorry.

Nastly climbs followed by rewarding trail descents is my idea of MTB. the one should not out weigh the other, but if any should then it should be the descent  .

similarly "Technical" is all part of it IMHO. i know i go to the mountain to climb rocky sections, and descend upon tricky turns, berms and corner... that what gets my Rev counter going...

the last two event i competed in was Spur Lourensford - just climbing! and no fun on the single track due to crowding and bunching. Lebanon MTB - was a blast!!! up and down 50/50 split, descent was also mostly trails.

K, im definitely considering partaking in this event as opposed to the Dirtopia Enduro at Simonsberg...

Rode Eselfontein this past weekend. It's super-dooper brilliant. And as a bonus, there's no freaking mud

Glad you liked it and remember we haven't started clearing the route yet. Lots of bridge building and weedeating still to happen.

Do both!

HaHa!

as the saying goes "if i could...." .Currently im residing in Bredasdorp and only see the likes of CT every 2nd weekend or so. I would have to be on my best behaviour with the wifey (currently im in the dog box) in order to partake in both events.

Plus, been racking up the km on my vehicle so... maybe doing both is not really in my best interest. I've just been intrigued by the enduro scene, and cannot wait till we have loooonnnggg trails and events that caters.

with concerns to Eselfontein, my head just keeps saying to me 65km of ENDURO!! lol.

Great! For once its not on Pioneer weekend. With all the dirt roadies at the DC we can get our groove on!

Exactly my thoughts. Awesome singletrack and not too many "roadies" doing it.

Haha! I'll tell the crazy okes on mtb's I see at the DC the REAL mtb'ers are at Eselfontein B)

But seriously, this is such a cool race, next year I'll have a good excuse to opt out of the DC!

I've missed this the last few years for various reasons (none of them being that I didn't want to be there). So excited to do it again. Now I just need some lights so I can do the night ride

If you get hold of me early on Friday night I can lend you a light.

ya, did notice there was some serious growth, especially in the forests. But still had a blast. Keep up the good work. I'm coming back for another 2 weekends before the end of the year. It's worth the drive from Cape Town.

Are you the owner?

Are you the owner?

No Deon Malherbe is the owner, I farm about 3km away on the Eselfontein rd. Myself and about another 4 farmers are involved with helping maintain the route before the festival. (our donation to the old age home and we do ride the route often) My guys cut that new downhill section after you go under the pipeline and also helped build two of the bridges. My wife also helps with the entries on the day. Remember most of the profit go's to the old age home in Ceres. Deon Malherbe doesn't need the money. :whistling:
