I'll wait till 1 Sept to enter my 3rd.

What am I gonna do about cramps on Suikerbossie... !!? :cursing:

As soon as I get there, my legs are like a dog going to vet!

Chow Rennies on the day. I figured this when the medics gave me Rennies in Coke when I started cramping at Smitswinkel one year. Had a couple more of these rescue remedies on the way through and suddenly got a major second wind from Camps Bay. So I ate 5 Rennies on the route last year and managed to get all the way clean and clear.

Apply a lot of 'the rules'... namely 5 (mother of all rules) & 6 and... well feck it read the rules and apply liberally. Train heavy, race light. Go harder on steeper hills than the argus serves and race all summer long (then you'll be fine) and make sure you're using a good hydration drink that works for you with pre load, endurance for race and a recovery. If you suffer cramps then USN make decent anti cramp tablets that you pump all the way through the ride.

Don't burn all your effort in the first part of the race so you have nothing left on 'bossie and the hard pump down from 'dudno to the line. You can make good time there if there is something in the tank.

3rd ride you know what you're facing.

Guys, anybody knows what the procedure / ruling / guidelines is around the Charity Groups?

I have a non PPA member (returning to cycling) that wants to ride, but would prefer doing it in a Charity Group.

I have a non PPA member (returning to cycling) that wants to ride, but would prefer doing it in a Charity Group.

I can email you the details. I am involved with the Chaeli Campaign and have been since 2009.

They have a start group within the charity groups and around 200 riders every year.

Start time is around 8am "ish".

They do amazing work for kids with disabilaties. Provide them with assistive devices, provide an early learning centre and loads loads more!

I will be doing my 10th Argus in this group next year! Chaeli will also be in the group herself, being towed in a buggy by a stong and brave rider, hoping to complete their 2nd Argus.

Myself and SupremeLady are entered into the 2014 Cape Epic as Chaeli Riders for the Chaeli Campaign in the mixed category. Check out our FB page. www.facebook.com/chaeliCapeEpic.

We have sponsorship oportunities available at the Argus and the Epic. Including the branding of the 200 riders at the Argus.

Feel free to PM me for more info!

As soon as I get there, my legs are like a dog going to vet!

Here is the procedure to prevent cramps at Suikerbossie.

1. Turn the corner onto Little Suikerbossie.

2. See pub on right hand side.

3. Stop pedalling get off bike.

4. Hand bike to helpful person sitting at one of the tables "please watch my bike, I need a beer umm to carboload"

5. Walk inside, making sure you cover yourself with the last bit of water from your bottle so your face looks all sweaty and stuff.

6. Ask for the beverage of your choice, looking like you need a break. Someone will say "hey man you riding and having a drink, no worries I'm buying"

7. Leave 20 minutes later, carbo loaded x 2 or 3. Ask for one for the road.

8. Get bike from table and off you go, no more cramping.

additional just in case points

9. If legs cramp going up big suikerbossie, get off bike, drink beer you took for the road and start cheering everyone else on.

10. Ask someone to throw the empty away for you as you get back on to continue the ride, and for sure you will get another refill.

11. Repeat as often as necessary to get to the top where you can freewheel home.

oh yes most important

12. Don't look inebriated or suspicious and get stopped by a UCI official asking you about weeing in a bottle in some tent as you cross the line.
