Any hubbers know of a decently priced online SA shop where I can buy power tools and accessories? Something like CWC for the DIY guy

There is www.tooltime.co.za for the DIY oke. Not name brand stuff, but imported white label stuff from China / Germany etc. Very reasonable prices. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Then there's http://www.newcopowertools.co.za/ and http://www.skarpa.co.za/

Not much else though. Maybe try The Powertool Man in CT to see if they will send some stuff up for you. VERY well priced, father and son owned retailer based in Pinelands. Just bought a Makita 8.5" sliding mitre saw from them for 2k5.

They know their stuff. And will be happy to talk to you over the phone and advise you on what you need. I'm going to use them for all my future powertool purchases. They handle Makita, De Walt, Bosch (and Skil) Maktec and Metabo.

Thanks. I don't mind having to phone if I know the service is good. I am just tired of being ripped off here locally and the slack service

Tools, my other obsession, I am a carpenter by trade and have always found that smaller specialist tool shops are the way to go, the bigger national stores may give you better price, but their advice is not worth the saved money, I have a very specific list of brands for specific tools that I use, based on my dads 40 years and my 10 years experience.

What specific tools you looking for? Give us a list and I will give you my opinion.

Tools unfortunately, often you get exactly what you pay for.

It is more a problem of no stock. I have just send my driver 50km to the next town to get a cicular saw blade because locally between 3 hardware stores no one has any stock and in Vryheid no stock eather. Managed to find one in Piet Retief. The other problem is if I order something I don't need it a week later and then it is still expensive as well. I am busy installing a new kitchen and the wife is pushing me to get it finished before month end  I have 2 Makita cordless drills and they are getting old and will need to be replaced sometime as well. Something like "To Dad, from Dad" Edited by LOOK695

On the subject ....

I been in the market for a bench top drill press for some time, only seem to el-cheapo Chinese jobs everywhere that have way too much play in the moving parts and horrible cheap plastic knobs everywhere. Anyone with suggestions where I might find a good quality product? Electronic speed control would be a bonus. That Bosch Green series one looks nice but not enough sturdy engineering below the bonnet.

Would love one of these, tad over the budget at R19k though

A man can never have enough tools, I am a toolmaker by trade and had an engineering business before I retired so I have spent my life around tools. For personal use I recon Bosch is a very good product and their prices are reasonable, their drills, cut off saws, routers etc are fine for general use, but for industrial use they are a little light in the pants and I would usually buy Makita or Metabo, both really heavy duty industrial tools.

For hand tools nothing comes close to Snap On, but only buy them if you are going to use them yourself, strangely they seem to have a habit of growing legs. For general purpose hand tools Gedore is fine, reasonably priced and I have never seen one break, not even in our workshop where they broke solid ball bearings regularly!.

Although the range of Mastercraft tools specific to the Masstores group is also very good, its a well known American brand and sold exclusively by Sears in the USA as well.

Where to buy, well we kept Adendorff tools in Robertsham in new BMW's,( http://www.tooltime.co.za/ ) but they were also great and stock was never a problem, personally I would buy where I get the best price on the brand I need, good stock holding and service, the tool market is extremely competitive but to be honest the big retailers will be hard to beat price wise.

Try Toolquip & Allied. Although some of their products are chinese imports they only sell the good ones, which are tried and tested.
