Also keen to know. I heard some feedback that people have issues with the 500 picking up satellite signal. I have 1 more in the mix, the joule gps

DC Rainmaker seems to think that its not worth paying the extra for the 510. Only reason I would consider the 510 is better satellite tracking.

Keen to hear the comments.

You have to decide if you need the extra features the 510 has - I don't.... but if you want someone to track where you are when riding, then you must go with the 510.

Edge500 - just works all the time. However with stage races going GPS I dont know how it will perform despite assurances that it will be fine.

Anyone have problems with the 500 picking up satellite signal?

No problems at all... done a few stage races and transbav with no signal loss

I have the 510 and it works brilliant. Family can track our rides if needed say for instance your going for a ride far from roads and need assistance then they can go track you as long as its on. Works perfectly and I havent had any signal issues at all

Takes a while to acquire when I leave before it has acquired signal - does not like being moved.

Never have issues if it's at a standstill when finding satellites, and the only place I have had issues with signal dropping is in central Jhb during CM - which is pretty understandable.

Yes, under tree's as in a forest or in deep ravines the instant speed reading starts to drop off considerably.

Only gps device I have is the edge 500, so cannot comment with regards to other devices in the same situations.

Consider 510 still needs a phone with compatible app to enable tracking of cyclist while riding. You can upload your data from 510 using phone instead of connecting to pc. I would recommend you read dcrainmaker's reviews on both. As mentioned Jaco mentioned the 510 is not really worth it. I would only take the 800/810 over 500.

Only in the basement.

Only problem I have with mine is that it freezes when I try load a course to ride. But it doesn't sound like its a common problem, and I probably just need to get into Garmin to get it checked out.
