Bobbo_SA Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Fellow Hubbers, Quick tech recommendation / question if I may. My riding is mainly rocky technical areas, I'm currently on a HT 29er and the "noise" from my chain rattling on the rocky sections drives me nuts so I'm looking to replace my older gen XT RD (2007 range) for something new. My 2 choices are (Limited budget): 1. SLX Shadow + (RDM675)2. New Gen XT Shadow (standard RDM781)
Flowta Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 How many speed is your current derailleur? If 9 speed, you'll have to replace the shifter as well
patches Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Like Flowta said, You'll have to replace cassette, shifter and chain with that RD upgrade. As for the RD's themselves, I'd go for the clutch SLX over the standard XT. Especially if you're looking to reduce noise. jannosmit and TopFuel 2
Bobbo_SA Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 How many speed is your current derailleur? If 9 speed, you'll have to replace the shifter as well 9speed but I bought a 10spd shifter, cassette and chain last month so the RD is the last step for the conversion
flat29 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 slx with clutch or xt with clutch I have the xt with clutch and work well
Alouette3 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Go clutch. Those things are awesome. Replaced my XT RD M773 Shadow with the SLX Shadow +, bet thing ever. Never drop my chain now!
Flowta Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 9speed but I bought a 10spd shifter, cassette and chain last month so the RD is the last step for the conversion SLX shifter it is then
Flowta Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 SLX shifter it is then I mean SLX Shadow RD it is then
Li Mu Bai Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 currently using a Sram X9 type 2, very nice indeed
Alouette3 Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I mean SLX Shadow RD it is then Shadow "+" has the clutch, plain Shadow does not.
Mojoman Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 How much do these go for (the RD's with the clutch?)
Flowta Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Shadow "+" has the clutch, plain Shadow does not. Yes, sorry. That's what I meant
TopFuel Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 How much do these go for (the RD's with the clutch?) SLX Shadow + : http://www.easybike.co.za/shimano-slx-rear-derailleur-rd-m675-sgs.html R650 special, or R720 from CWCXT Shadow + : http://www.easybike.co.za/shimano-xt-rear-derailleur-rd-m786-gs-shadow-silver.html R850, or R990 from CWC Mojoman 1
Jewbacca Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I have a solution....... Its probably not very constructive BUT it will save you money, you will never ever have chainslap, you will get stronger than ever before and you might actually enjoy it....... Ride a single speed..... Just saying..... you did ask how to reduce chainslap...... Bobbo_SA and Pieter1 2
