NotSoBigBen Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) So a short discussion this morning about how fickle cycling magazines can be (one specific mag that used to be mostly about the 'freedom' of cycling but seems to be more aimed at racers these days - IOHO) led to a question, what is the ratio of people who race vs those who do not race at all but just enjoy riding their bikes? So thought a snap Friday poll may be interesting. Please guys this is not intended to be a question of whether one should or shouldn't or why but just if you do or don't, nothing more nothing less! DIPSLICK Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I ENTER RACES BUT I RIDE THEM Wil6, TK-Sp3cialiSt, Harryn and 10 others 13
Wyatt Earp Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I race and when I do race it's for a purpose and I then race hard.I ride mostly for pleasure though and will even enter a race to ride the race for pleasure, when I do an event for pleasure I don't race. NotSoBigBen and T-Bob 2
NotSoBigBen Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 I ENTER RACES BUT I RIDE THEM So you would have to vote yes
VicanZA Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Once I started stage racing, I cut back on single day events.
DIPSLICK Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 So you would have to vote yes BUT NOT TO RACE,some of us are not built for racing we built for riding
NotSoBigBen Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 No mention of hair? Dude realised it was a 'moot' point that for many of the hubbers specifically myself ....
Jakkals. Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I love riding my bike and enjoy racing it.
Tumbleweed Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Dude realised it was a 'moot' point that for many of the hubbers specifically myself ....Hehehe!Seems I am developing a bald patch. Maybe when I get around to going the hairless route, I will enter a race or two... Grebel 1
Grebel Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I used to enter races only to be caught in the midpack chaos. Fitness dictated that I ride there. Long story short, It gives me greater pleasure to just ride with mates now. We can ride mostly similar if not more tech single track and trails and we can push back up and ride them again. For me it isn't racing. At my level, it is just an over congested ride. Cassie 1
scotty Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Like to do the occasional race and one day when i'm big i'm gonna do a stage race.

jaxtun Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 usually only stage races and take my camera so that answers the race question. If I do a 1 day race then I will try race hard.
Wil6 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I love riding my bike and enjoy racing it.Nothing wrong with that, wish I could get more time to train to race my bike more.
patches Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) I have been known to enter a "race" or 2. But those are the exception. 99.99% of my riding is purely recreational. Not training for anything. Just me, on a bike, having fun. For me it's about enjoying the journey itself. Not about giving my all to make that journey as short as possible. So although I have entered 2 events this year (1x Sani2C, and 1x KZN DH provincial) I wouldn't say "I race bicycles" Edited September 13, 2013 by patches Eddy Gordo and Grebel 2
