Where is the best place in Northern JHB to take a Shimano STI for repair?

I have a damaged STI from a little lie down. There's no visible damage on the outside, but she's not working so well.

Please don't tell me I have to replace it!

Is it not braking or is it not changing gears. I found once it did not hold the gears in place I had to replace. Found a complete 105 groupset on the hub for R1200! Now have plenty of spares.

Stuck at a wonky angle and not changing gears. Is braking fine. Don't want to buy a new Dura Ace groupset, nor STI for that matter.

Last time i checked you cant pull shimano apart. Tried once with a tiagra shifter, its still sitting in pieces at home. Unfortunately its virtually impossible to put shimano STI's together. Sorry. But try lube it up a bit or get hold of the shimano reps at cool heat they might be able to send it away for you.

Best bet is to take it to Alone at Solomons Pta. You cant get parts for them but he gets a pile of crashed ones from the distributer -Coolheat and then recovers the required part from scrap.

Flush it with WD40 before trying anything drastic. It's most likely just gunked up inside. It is possible to strip the shifter portion if you have to, but it's not the easiest thing to put back together.

Try the recommendations but from my experience when I crashed and broke my left one, the shop told me I had to buy a pair and that they couldn't get single STI's.

I eventually bought a single left one online in the USA, but locally I never got further.

Ja, it's also the left one. Just seems to have been "hyper-extended". really don't want to drop R3k on another one.

Yah, with you, it was about a year or so ago I bought mine but it wasn't 3k - cant really remember exactly what it was but it was quite a bit less,....Phew, I would have remembered 3 K for sure.

Look on the www.chainreactions.com site. You may get single shifters there. I saw Dura Ace 3 speed not long ago for round about R1200.00. Just make sure, if you order you get the correct model and colour. Difficult to change items when they are situated in Ireland.
