Thats what I did, managed to get an e-thirteen guide off the hub and running my standard 33T middle ring. Have a normal X7 RD and haven't had any problems so far.

Dont even try without the guide, utter nightmare!!!

I am riding without a clutch derailleur and no guide with my raceface NW ring. I have not yet thrown the chain. I have actually tried to...but couldn't. I can even lose another link on my chain, which I will remove soon.

Hope I'm not speaking to soon but so far I'm extremely happy with this chainring.

Jip no guide needed with a NW ring but the guy was questioning using just a stanrd middle ring on his 3x10 set. Will need a guide then.

I've got another NW so I may test it out on the 9sp lang cage X0 setup. I am nervous though about the lack of clutch, even though I've heard good reports on 9sp systems.

Just a quick note that is probably covered in the thread but I can't remember seeing it....

You need to mount the chain correctly - the chainring is narrow-wide-narrow-wide etc. You need to match it to the narrow wide narrow wide of the chain.

You only have a 50% chance of getting it right without checking :-)

Also make sure you have an even number of chain-links or your chain & chainring will go out of sync :whistling:

hahaha!

haha yeah...

I tried purposely putting the chain "off-sync" and it wouldn't catch. It simply just slipped into the correct place.
