Best moments in SA cycling?

I think Burry will remain head and shoulders above the rest for a while. He was that special.

The way he put it all on the line after the kakkest start ever at the london olympics to rejoin the lead group was just pure courage. His dominance of the epic with suzi as well as that u23 victory would probably be my 2 and 3 here.

Greg Minnaar's achievements are amazing, but it's quite a marginal sport.

Robbie Hunter's tdf yellow was a career highlight, but on reflection I think he was a solid rider who achieved a lot but never really made it into the top of the peleton.

Barlowwoorld team actually riding in the peleton was awesome.

Impey in yellow

Froome on the top step in paris with his convuluted accent showing a hint of saffa in it.

Skitzo dominating now and then on his bmx.

Morewood bikes being proudly SA from maritzburg.

I do have to include one of my favourites here, and it qualifies because it is very mtb related. Conrad Stoltz throwing down the hammer and dropping skinny guys on almost every Xterra international race in the past ten years.

[not much from the ladies, to be honest]

Stand open to correction but RH never wore yellow in the Tdf

I am in the company of people who remember things I have forgotten. Brings back memories.

Robbie's stage wins, Greg's world cups and world championships etc all awesome including Burrey's achievements

But this year SA Cycling really arrived on the world map has been this year: Impey yellow jersey, Froome putting Wiggo in his place and Greg's World Championship, and then the saddest as well with the loss of Burrey who could have gone on to become a legend.

Just as an aside - what about Anke Erlank at the Olympics ? Crashing on the way to a medal.

I hate to sound like someone who cant let go of the past, but from 1992 and SA being allowed back into the sporting world, we had a lot of guys and girls who competed at worlds, Commonwealth games and Olympics but never had the stellar performances that we are seeing now. I believe these guys and gals put in performances that ultimately built the riding scene to what it is today. Sure Malcolm Lange never competed in the Tour de France, but his experiences abroad lifted his ability which in turn benefitted the guys around him. Doug Ryder and Nick White are other examples, both class riders but without their "experience" our racing scene would never had prospered. Like I said, I hate to live in the past, but when you consider what Burry, Greg, Robbie and Darryl have done, it shows even better things are on the trails/passes and tracks that our future stars are to pedal! With all due respect to Burry and the others, lets hope we have multiple XC world champs, Tour stages aplenty and dare I believe a final yellow jersey one day?!

Dont foget Willie Engelbrecht's bronze medal from the 1994 Commonwealth games, it was our first medal at international level.

Didn't Cherise Stander win stage 1 of the TdF womens' equivalent a year or two back?

Massive achievement in itself.
