Die Burger Road Race

Not sure about the "prices" I think they are quite high. However, this is a funride, if you have an issue with the "prices" don't ride the race. It is a funride after all!

Bokie is referring to prize money - and I agree with this. Shocking that only recongnise first 3 boys and girls. What about the tandems and us older folkes? Don't get me wrong, not really about the money, but the recognition that there are other groups racing as well. This is not a funride.

Ok guys I am out for the race. Got a nice surprise this morning when I walked all kitted into garage just to discover that my roadbike with my brand new edge 500 (got yesterday) was stolen during the night. I am still in shock! Don't think the insurance will pay out since there was no forced entry (garage closed but backdoor not locked). Even if they pay out it is only insured for R40 000 so these days can't buy much decent for that

*******!!!!

Oh crap    sorry to here. Post pics on a new thread, amazing how the hubbers can "snuffel" out a bike.

I'm thinking a little under the 20 minute mark i'll be happy with...granted they clean it up a bit since last weekend.

Lucas, we did the part from the actual start of Old Helz in 13:01 at the training ride, so you should be able to do the section from the start of the race, to the top in about 13-15min

Hey Wannabe and the rest that did the pre-ride... I keep forgetting to ask - but how was the new section at the Swaelstertpad they want us to do this year?! (Instead of going straight down past Nederburg.) Haven't been there in ages - how does it look now? Just to get mentally prepped!

More rollers...? Or pretty much down and connecting to the road to Wellington?

Ok i wanted to rant about no goody bags, but ...

went to fetch my race pack today...no goodie bag :(

I'd choose no goodie bag over crappy "deoderant sample, flyers & old mag" goodie bag every time

Is it that the rode we where we turn to the right after Val de Vie? Its a slight bump when you have turned, but then it's all cool untill you take a nice downhill to the left, towards Wellington. Nothing to be worried about there

Seabee, you talking of the section going past the Victor Verster Prison?

One or two little rises, otherwise flat as a pancake and fast as hell (especialy with the wind in your back, as we had it)

Road is just a bit bumpy (almost like corrugations) on the left hand side / yellow lane area. So in the race I will stay in the middle of the road / more towards the white line.

It does take its toll on your hands and wrists.

HRW, that is part of the old route. He's talking about the section going past Val de Vie / Boschendal.

 .

Well, now he knows what the other part looks like as well :whistling:

That was the complete Helz for me. Last Saturday, in cruise mode, did this 4 km section in 13:13

No, not there, after that... you cross the N1, short little climb (up to the entrance to Hawekwa) after that. Then in past we went down past Nederburg (past another prison) and turned right there instead of going straight down to the biiig intersection with the Wellington road.

Now, at the top of that short little climb to Hawekwa entrance, you get the Swaelstert pad splitting off on your right. That section leading to the Wellington road is entirely new for this year - and I haven't been around there in many many moons. Sounds like it's been tarred now (otherwise we'd obviously not go there!)

Unless I'm completely off my meds...
