Washing a helmet's straps

Like the others have said, shower with your helmet.

I use that thing my missus used to exfoliate with - dont know what it's called but it looks like the bag that oranges come it but all balled up. Squirt some shower gel onto it and work the inside of the helmet like im unscvrewing a lid. Just lay the straps on the inside while im doing this and it sorts them out too.

Do it every couple of weeks becuase it starts to get funky !

It'd called a loofah... Not sure of spelling... Haha

Just wash it immediately as well after each ride.

Otherwise, it can stain or discolour permanently.

Now to rock the boat.....

Clean Green undiluted and a high pressure cleaner. I have cleaned the whole set-up like this, from bike, shoes, helmuter, camelsack and even socks. Just make sure the spray nozzle is set to spray and not jet. My wife has those white Shimano MTB shoes (with white SPD stitching), been through some seriaaas mud and still looks new once cleaned. Even the inner soles gets the spray. Works very well on helmut straps also.

Don't you find your neck is helluva sore afterwards?

You'd be surprised, it works all the kinks out of my neck. Far better than the Thai massage down the road. :D

Your washing machine has a "happy ending" setting?

I swear by Clean Green for things like that.

Spray some on, leave to soak in a bit, then reapply.. into the shower.. nail brush and ta-da!!

Interesting a thread like this comes up.

Some time ago, someone was moaning about the straps coming loose and wearing thin,

then there was an argument as to which helmet was best etc etc etc.

Cut a long story short ... you must read the washing or care instructions

probably just a rinse with lukewarm water will do the trick

definitely no soaps, solvents, abrasives

The users are their biggest enemies, not quality of components
