Hey there...

I am wanting to buy a MTB but actually have no idea what I should be looking for as I am new to all of this...

Any suggestions on a beginner MTB for ladies - budget 5k to 7k?

I am 168cm tall and assume I will need a small frame...

Thanks for all the help.

Hi,

I'm selling my wife's women's specific MTB in the classifieds and it may be suitable for you. This bike was specifically designed for women taking into account their different body geometry. At 168cm tall you are possibly between a small and a medium (my wife is 172cm and her bike is a medium). The price is negotiable. We're in Emmarentia JHB.

Thanks

Do a search here on the hub and you will find lots of info. While some of the upper-level ranges have a different geometry, often the WSD are just differently-painted entry-level men's frames with down-specked components and shorter stem, with a softer (usually less comfy) saddle.

I am 1.52m short and both my bikes are not WSD. All I have done is put narrower bars and a shorter stem on. This way I have decent bikes with decent components.

I would suggest to get a friend (or if you dont have cycling friends, someone willing to help) to actually show you bikes physically (not on the internet) ...or borrow one or 2 before you buy.

Like the size thing, you probably have a totally different built than I although we are both 1.68m. I ride M, but you might be a small.

Have you been out riding already?

If so, where did you go?

(I cant help with the price thing, I can just help with what to look out for / pro's and con's)

Hey did you decide on something eventually?

can i hijack your thread a bit and ask the ladies if they have any tried & tested preference for a ladies saddle?

most of the ladeis specific saddles i tried dont work for me except the selle itlia slr but many will find it a very hard one. male or female i find specialised saddles the best and use the avatar on my MTB which is quite comfy. i see they now have quite sporty ladies saddles too, go to complete cyclist in bryanston who had demo saddles so you wont spend money for something not working for you

Since I'm not a girl I can only advise via the wife and daughter's recommendations. Both use the same WTB Speed She ladies saddle and they swear by it. Both of them have been riding for more than 10 years.

Contact International Trade... ;)

Currently I am using the Specialized Arial ladies saddle.

For me it is the most comfortable. I use it on both my MTB and Road bike although it is actually a mtb saddle.

The two things I like about the saddle the most is

1. die "koekie bakkie" like I call it. This takes the pressure of the essential area

2. The other points where your sit bones makes contact.

The saddle is also not super hard but more than stiff enough.

I also find that if I use the spez saddle I can get away by riding with mens bib shorts (that is how comfy the saddle is).

Tx ppl.

@carpet - kookie bakkie - LOVE IT!!!! :)

I'm not about to be doing too many kms in one go but I don't want to have to upgrade too often, but cost is going to be a factor so I'll do some homework on prices for options listed above and go from there.

Muchos gracias.

The spez arial is good enough to do epic with so you dont need to upgrade soon.

And it is also not that expensive. You can ask Wyatt for the latest prices.
