They beat us to it, VG Dirt Fest

wouldn't exactly call it Enduro

STAGE 2 : The 6 Segments

Inspired by Strava we bring you the first segmented race with a mix of climbs, descents, single track and a flat sprint. The main loop will no be timed, only the segments. So ride with your buddies and race the segments! There will be a cut-off time, but nothing to serious! A good mix of segments will give everyone to a chance to showcase their mountain bikin talents.

Segment 1: Chain Breaker - first up, we start with the loooooong climb

Segment 2: VO2max - Secondly, a short and steep climb.

Segment 3: Tant Miems - Going down the hill...a chance for the "I waste them on the downhills" guys...

Segment 4: Drag-Strip - The one for the converted roadies, a flat sprint along the railway!

Segment 5: The Supertube - Fast, flowing single track.

Segment 6: The River Dance - The final segment, dancing your way back home on the historical VG's River Route.

Nice try but how about dropping one of the climbs for another downhill section?

I think that's the problem with VG as an enduro venue - it's hard to link up the existing nice downhill sections without doing 60 - 70 ks in total.

It's probably all going to be decided by stage 1 and 4.

Those 6 segments have a clear marathon flavour to them, and lets face it, their target market is the avg marathon rider looking for something different instead of enduro rider.

You are right about the amount of km that needs to be covered though, but for the vaalies its better than nothing

That's like Enduro blasphemy

You missed 1, 2 and 6

this format should read XC stage racing not Enduro.

I know of an area, if there is someone who wants to develop and build the trails pm me. I will put you in contact with the owners. Sections will be shortish but you have a few 200m high koppies to work with

Good for them, sure it'll grow into something and it's a great start. Plenty enough potential.

As usual there will probably be the snide whining. Sometimes I wonder with riders being so bitchy, it might be better for them to open a book club and knitting circle. Or maybe get involved be proactive and build it into something.

True, they are offering something different to the people, something else to the different go like the clappers in a circle. So well done to them.

The idea with the Dirt Fest is to create a MTB weekend festival! For the whole family, the idea with the stages is more like Strava Segments, DEFINITELY not Enduro segments.

But the idea is to make this for the XC riders, and next year proper Enduro stages on the same weekend, and maybe a downhill race!

soooo, next year gravity riders will have much more to keep them busy with at the VG Dirt Fest weekend
