i cant wait for the 31ers to come out. i have 2 x 29ers but 31ers are going to be the bom!

I heard they were moving the crank to the front wheel to shorten the downtube and offer less curve. The chainstay however is still an issue, the last prototype had a 26" wheel out back.

Must say that Trance and Anthem 27.5 are very nice looking bikes.

Makes me want to jump on the band650Bwagon myself

Come to think of it, trying out the Trance 26er, 650B and 29er back to back is a super idea! Until I consider the possible outcomes:

1. That my 5 year old 26er might actually emerge the winner  What the hell am I going to buy then? Despite all indications up to now, I know it won't last forever

2. That the 29er might come out on top. Then my mates are going to make fun of me changing my story of the last 3 years and I'll have to buy something that is about to go extinct ;)

3. That the 650B might come out on top. Then my 26er and my 29er mates are going to gang up on me and I'll have to buy something of which the future is still very much unsure.

Must say I like this problem!

Giant are struggling. They are not selling the numbers anymore. Now the marketing department has to come up with clever ideas.

So exactly what numbers are they selling, and who is now the biggest bicycle brand in the world, since Giant is now "struggling".

DJR, I have a cunning plan! I currently have a Trance 26er which I will never sell. I am also really wanting to buy an Anthem or Trance 29er this or next year so most probably will do that. At some future date I am sure I can convince myself that a 650B Anthem or Trance would be a very good idea for x, y, z reasons (my own mental marketing hype!). Then, I will have all three bikes and I can ride whichever I want - depending on where I ride and also which mate(s) I ride with. Best of all worlds - what do you think?!  :D Please note that this has nothing to do with affordability or what my wife might think - this is just me, the bicycle nut.

ok, I only read the first few responses. This falls nothing short of clever marketing. Yes there are advantages and disadvantages between the different tyre choices etc. But how can you compete in a market where people want something new?Unlike cars that bring out somthing new and improved each year, how do you do this with a complete bicycle. One has to create the hype!!!!

Unfortunately for people like me and a few others this all falls on deaf ears. I have a 26'er trail bike. I am more than happy with it. I did buy it new at the time of the 29er hype!! I wont change it, partly because I cant afford it. I also like how light my bike is, how easy it rolls etc.

Death of a 26er, i doubt it, maybe some manufacturers will stop making them, but before long there will be some new ones that sees the gap in the market for 26ers.

Tyres and parts will still have to me made if these top brands want to stay at the top. Otherwise some rich spark will just have 26er parts made in china!! Just my 2 cents!!

I say, lets go ride the Swartberg Pass on our current bikes and talk about it.

Curse my knee... would have loved to come along Dan!

Still, I love my reign x. I'm going to have to see something really special at an even more special price to make me stray to a newer bike.

If was doing trail riding with a Reign I would drool so much over that new Trance I would not be able to not buy it. The new Anthem is causing me some excessive drooling. I fear my next visit to the LBS, they better not have one of those Anthems in size medium.

Lol. See, my reign is the big one. The reign x - 170mm front and back, 66.5 / 67 degree head angle and super shirt chainstays for the size of bike. So my rationale is that the Trance (new OR old) will be the perfect xc bike for me. Cos I like them slack and low.

Plus for 23k it's a bargain of note.

Then I won't tell what I saw at OLYMPIC CYCLES this week.....
