i have RR evo tires on my bike and the Mrs has RR snakeskins on hers, she has punctured three times in the last two weeks, i have about 2000km on mine and haven't had one puncture on mine??? may just be luck of the draw i guess!

Definitely pushing your luck, the non snakeskin will puncture - just don't know when.

Of course I check my sealant every couple of months - got a collection of funny looking rubber bits...

You mean these bad boys?

The other possibility is that the Stan's bottle wasn't properly shaken/mixed before putting it in the tyre. If you don't do this then you land up with what is basically water and no puncture plugging granules in the tyre. Because that is quite an aqueous solution, it just leaks out the puncture holes without sealing much.

Definitely not the case with me, I use sealant in my road tubbies and have seen how it separates when its been in storage so its habit for me to give the sealant a very good shake before I put it in.

Snakeskin doesnt protect against punctures, only sidewall tears. if your EVO has HD speed guard or other puncture specific protection, that's probably what saved your rubber, that and a helpful dose of luck. Tell us what the sidewalls of both sets of RRs say. they normally list the various technologies applied to the tyre.

I braved the Barberton Ultra on Rocket Ron Evo's front and rear, I made it amazingly even though I had already done a patch/gator job the day before to fix a sidewall cut. Needless to say I chucked them out the next day after getting a sidewall cut that left me stranded on a recovery ride.

Exactly, the snakeskin part applies to sidewalls only...

That is pushing your luck but I did the same until the skurweberg race, 2km from the finish and it was kaput.

Sometimes you just get bad tires. OR a very unfortunate situation....

I ran GEAX Seguaro's almost exclusively across the board and never had a single issue until this year. Started Freedom Challenge on them, went into the Elandsberg and watched them disintegrate before my eyes. Sealant showers and trying to keep them together with elastoplast and electrical tape.

I still use them and havent had anymore problems so is it the situation a bad tire, a bad batch or just bad luck?

I do think you should replace them and be daring and try something else. 60grams here and there isnt going to kill you. The Conti X-King is awesome........

My RR's also leak slightly. There was a topic posted a while back where I showed some photos.

I've now learnt, if the leaking stops, I've run out of Stans.

I'm not worried about weight, I like a light bike but don't obsess over it. A mate of mine rides the GEAX Seguaro's and raves about them, maybe I'll give them a bash.

Forkin heavy, very hard to mount on Stan's rims....but bulletproof. You have been warned

I dunno... I look at the feel of a thing. Its a personal preference I suppose but in my world its about how it feels and the confidence it inspires.

Riding bikes is some [arts fitness, some parts skill, some parts preparation and that all ties together with the confidence factor.

The confidence a super reliable component/tire gives you is worth a gazillion grams in my book. But then I ride a lot of steel and very little gears or travel for that matter. I trust my equipment so I know I can spend all my energy on just putting my head down and worry about getting to the end as fast as possible, not worry about flats or mechanicals..

But you must buy with what inspires cinfidence, this will give you peace of mind so you can concentrate on the fun bit, actually riding your bike and drugging up on endorfins..... (ha, you thought I was going to say something else?!)
