The Reign is so tempting but for Pta/Jhb where I will have to do the majority of my riding, it is probably too much bike...

(LOL, although my old Giant VT2 was probably way less efficient and heavier and that did not bother me when I had that bike and entered all sorts of 1/2 marathon and marathon races...but it did lead me to eventually get an Anthem 26er which was great for racing, but almost immediately made me enjoy downhill section less and have less confidence. I also leade quickly to being content riding my local spots - mostly xc trails in Pta - and not finding new exciting or challenging venues)

Guys, in you experience have the lbs swapped out the "upgraded" forks (pay in difference), given 50% discount on current but pay full for Pike or how have you negotiated the fork "upgrade" if you have gotten it from the start?

The Reign has P-AM2 rims on it which happen to be the same ones that the 2015 650b Glory has. That means the are strong as hell!

Didn't know that, thanks.

I can confirm they are very strong and stiff. Was going to upgrade but really not worth R8k for a little weight saving and "name brand rims"

I dont think many people would have had much success.

The 2014 and below models used OD2 which no one wanted so there was zero resale value. Bike shops obviously were not interested in them.

2015 model is back to normal tapered so a few may be willing but don't expect anything close to retail.

A mate of mine has both bikes - lucky bastard.

Had my first rides on my new Trance 2 this weekend and what a brilliant bike. It's just so smooth. Improved most of my Strava ( ) downhill segments on my first ride at Tygerberg and even some of the uphill ones. I am glad I learnt to ride on a 26er Anthem first because this bike is so forgiving, you don't have to choose good lines.

One thing though - what do you guys do to fit a bottle into the cage when mounted in the standard position? The bottle wont go into the cage (side entry) as it hits the top tube. Do you get some sort of adaptor to move it's position down a bit?

My bottle fits OK in a large frame, once I got used to putting it in and removing it on the go. Some fit a "side entry" bottle cage. Ask at your lbs.

I've got a side entry on a medium frame though. Flat top bottle won't fit. I reckon I'll have to McGyver an adaptor.

insert a washer or 3 under the lower cage mounting. Should cant the cage up just enough to ensure that the bottle slopes towards the down tube as opposed to parallel to it.

thanks will try that.

I've got a tool container in the bottle cage... CamelBak for fluids. Works for me.

Thanks for this comment, busy looking at the Trance or the Reign and having ridden the Anthem 26er this helps me make up my mind, can't seem to justify an additional R10k spend on the bike and feel I'll get more from the Trance.

I ride a medium and a Camelback Podium 610ml bottle squeezes in just fine.

don't know much about the Reign, but you won't regret getting a Trance.

Anyone know if the reign 2 wheels would be a suitable upgrade for the trance instead of going the more expensive flow route? If yes, anyone selling some?
