Price is a reason, safety on the road and the risk of your window getting smashed for radio or something are factors.

Races are for financial gain for some people, not for the enjoyment for a family... Just calculate what it will cost you if you, your wife and kid(s) went to do the Argus/Amashova if you are a 'Valie'...GFishy2008-02-18 20:40:20

Good, hopefully organisers will realise that we are not bottomless pits of cash to fill their coffers - we have titanium bike bits to buy after all. Drop race entry, make them safer and we will come.

Does any one have attendance figures for Mtb races?

I think there has been a huge growth in Mtb race due to safety factors on our roads

Those are timed riders. The real stats will be all riders.

MTb is growing very fast - most cyclists feel safer in the dirt.

I know cyclists who have converted to mtb and given up on road.

I think the new licensing issue is also a factor as it increases the price of doing events aswell as the time killing of trying to find out how to become licensed.

But those figures only indicates how many people actually finished not how many started...

Like the 2007 Argus for instance started with over 35000 people with just over 28000 finishing...

might be the same for the other races...

Maybe the goodie bags are preventing them from entering... I say throw in some deep sections, power meters, carbon bits and whatver else and see those entries shoot up! However, they must still keep the race entry fees the same or even lower them.

R100 for say the 94.7 and a nice goodie bag with a set of Aeolus 6.5's
It's time CSA give back to the community!

Thats like saying all cyclists are ungrateful, selfish whiners. It seems to be more an issue of way too many people trying to organise too many events.

This is a concern Tanya Hartford has pointed out, I can see it happening with MTB events as well.
