Yeah I know what you mean Bobbie.  I'm just worried that I sell my road bike to get a nice mountain bike and one day down the line I want to ride on the road again Confused.  So I guess I'll just have to keep saving.

Dont know so much about MTB being for playing, my HR ave on the MTB is always more than on road, then again that could be due to the excitement.

LOVE my MTB.  It is that stoute feeling that you get going out on it.

FUN, FUN and more FUN.

But I love racing and will do so until I die.

To race on the MTB is hardcore!!!

MTB is the prefered bike, does not matter if its offroad or on tar. Last time I rode a road bike was 94.7.

Enjoy passing slick roadies with my fat hairy legs and "bromming" wheels Tongue

They are both sooo totally different...

I race MTB and love the fact that it is more of an individual test of your own strength and stamina. There is hardly any slipstreaming, the terrain can be very challenging, you can get scared sh!tless on a long dropoff, and your heartrate goes moggy on the steep hills.

Road racing is great fun too, often you work with other cyclists to gain advantage, you get scared sh!tless on superfast 80km/h downhills (try this on a sandy road on your mtb - wooooooooooohoooo!)

racing is very tactical for both types of cycling, neither is safer than the other, because you can get really broken falling on a MTB, as you can on a road bike in traffic.

Training on a road bike is great for deep strength in mtb riding, and training on a mtb is great for explosive fast power on the road.

DO BOTH, they are great fun and compliment eachother nicely.

MTB does take you out to some amazingly beautiful places in our country - if you take the time to look up from the path and take in the view.

Alida: what size bike do you ride? Maybe we can organise you a demo or loan bike so you can see for yourself just addictive mtb'ing is. I have a FS MTB and RB, and I'd MUCH rather spend time on my mtb.

It's fun, it's fresh, it's more social, it's dirt, it's difficult and PLENTY rewarding. And when I say it's fun, I don't mean in a don't take it seriousway, I mean I really enjoy mtb'ing. Every bit of it.

Anybody wanting to buy a Felt FC with Record...3 months old.Wink

But seriously, what size are you? No, not your jean size!

Train on MTB

Makes you work harder.

Like the Idea of just going anywhere. - and safer for you have more road to yourself.

But nothing beats that rhythm being kept on a road bike.

Alida, take The Crow up on his offer: I've been a roadie all my life, bought an Mtb, loved it to bits (literally) but find myself more on the road than on the mtb. I won't be able to sell either, regardless of how little I use it.

Also, you don't need a fancy mtb to truly enjoy being offroad...but it helps (apparently)
