Oh of course, yeah sorry that was dumb, so that average includes all paddling and carrying and and and, ok got it.

Those estimations are based on the route organiser's educated knowledge of how he thinks the fastest team without Nav errors and the slowest team (usually also without Nav errors) will move on the course.

Add in Nav errors and sleeping and things look VERY different.

The 'fastest' estimations are usually pretty accurate (last year EA and GodZone were not) but the slowest can sometimes be double with Human elements and inexperience thrown into the mix.

also sit on tops are slow AF.

50min 10km timetrial is doable in a K1 and faster in a K2.

Also depends on the water, flat water is slow, downriver is faster, but like downriver when it is in flood is ideal, like wartrail this year with higher water, just went straight over the rapids.

Despite reading about the debilitating weather the last few days the pics from yesterday look stunning.

Adventure Life really close to the end now. Amazing that only 3 teams (so far) are still on the actual full course route.

yoh that was an experience and a half....

Scotland is wetter and colder than anything you can expect, but it is absolutely spectacular.

The course would have been one for the histroy books had they given us 6 days not 5 days to race it, the cutoffs were always going to be super close even for the leaders hence actually no one did the full course as an entire hike leg was cut out of the event.

I feel for Columbia getting DQ'd 15km from the finish line.

As for us, we had an epic race, really a bunch of laughs and a good pace. The conditions we handled well, infact considering it all, all the Saffa's handled the weather well. I got a little cold the one night, upon arriving in transition but if you kept moving it was comfortable.

We made good decisions in terms of which of the optional CP's to skip. This meant we made all transition cutoffs and managed to still do all the legs and all the mandatory CP's so it was a bit of a thinkers race. Technically we would have ranked actually really well had we been a mixed team, we did skip a fair few controls but we only missed the canyon cutoff so all mandatory cp's were collected.

Glenmorangie at the finish line was also an added incentive.

What I am super disappointed about was how cheap outdoor gear was there, I would have bough a lot less here and just got it there, some Helly Hanson base layers and other kit was like half the price there and the range is awesome.

One scary omission from all the news is that they had PFD inspection and the ones they were not happy with they hung a weight on and chucked in the canal. Lets just say my 4 year old PFD failed miserably and it was not in bad shape at all. The scary part is that I used that for wartrail river paddle in March happily. But the scarier part is that almost every single pfd tested, failed, so badly that they phoned Palm and checked if they were testing correctly.

During the 4th leg AKA the kayak portaging world championships we reckon it dropped down to a few degrees, even in full wetsuit with booties and neoprene pogies whilst dragging a sit on top over a mountain and we were all still fairly freezing.

That being said I actually really enjoyed the weather, we got a bit burnt on the one paddle even, but far easier than 30deg heat to race in. Just need a lot more food to keep you going and warm.

With the old eanci orange jobs I would test my crew by lifting them up by the shoulder strap. If the life jacket went over the head then you had to retie!

I'm involved in a small international race soon.

Our team have had to get new pfds as the good local ones are not sufficient buoyancy.

ya, mine was a locally made pfd and I am starting to wonder if that was the issue not the age. I can  literally count the number of times it has been used since bought new in 2014.

Thankfully my better half is working in Isle of man for a few months, so I have a lovely new one on the way. Outdoor gear is a lot cheaper in the uk.
