Spruit Spade work

The park between Crudenbay road and Pirates Rarely if ever sees a City Parks Official.

It is 200m from the Vida cafe and I am sure if some developement takes place there they wont notice.

There is a daily impromptu soccer game there and the 'gaurdians' have never put a stop to that.

And that, people, is how to go about getting approval on City Land. If ONLY it was that easy when it came to Parks!!!

True that! I wanted to build a few "ramps" in a park up the road from me. It was overgrown and had a few people paying it a visit for time "private time and cocktails". Got buy in from the local ward councillor as well as parks and gardens. I had to submit a proposal and finally get a signed petition from ALL the affected residents saying that they approved of the proposal There were seven resident affected by the plan. Six were in favour. One wasn't.... and that was the end of that.

Next time I'll grab my spade, dump sand and just start building. Anybody complains, I'll tell them to mind their own business.

If you look at the link i posted earlier, maybe we should enlist the help of the African MTB Association - they seem to know what hoops to jump through.

Perhaps. Maybe the guys have already tried them. I know Amarider was involved from the beginning. There are just too many granny groups who oppose everything. Basically we have given up trying to get permission.

What really needs to happen here is for a group to form for trail advocacy on the spruit i.e. something more formal than "spruit fairies". Lets face it cyclists are 90% of the users over a 35km stretch.

Then a formal proposal for sections needs to be put forward and worked into a professional presentation. Include safety, environmental concerns, impact on other users, area used vs total area, signage etc etc.

Then the dog walkers would need to come up with some alternative proposal if they were to oppose it.

it would be a shame if someone were to spill some Roundup on the path leading to that jump

The Spruit is somehow still developing all the time...

I was thinking exactly the same thing - it's a pretty big area in a good location and nobody is particularly precious about it.

There used to be a way to cross that park, cross over 6th street, through a hole in the fence and then a path around the field and down the hill to the big corner on Rustenburg (where Byron ends).

That park had (has) a nice natural jump in it.

If a 100 cyclist pitch up and complain about the dogs biting us and demand a route to ride or to give us cycle lanes on the roads surely they'll choose the more economical option. All of us have a friend at a bike shop that can gather 10 cyclists each. I'm sure 200 is very possible to get. Go there and hand over a partition..... Not burn tires....

You have a better chance of getting cyclists banned from Delta Park

I might just go check it out, but I think that part between 6th st (victory rd) and the blue bridge is private land.

I think that hole in the fence became pallisade.

We have come to the conclusion that she grew up in Holland.

What is the issue with people from Holland?
