Just saw two MTN Q and two Nuwater PROs head down a one way street... Against the flow.

But it's okay.

It's a quiet Sunday morning in the sleepy town of Durbanville.

Hey, we're not sleepy, we're just ALWAYS out riding

Just highlights the sheer selfish, arrogant mindset that some people embrace.

No one, not even Judge Dredd (who IS the law) is above the law despite how self important they think they are.

That is really true-the selfish arrogant part- i was thinking the same thing this morning. Although im not against it and the fact that cycling is growing at a phenominal rate-it has become the new golf and every second tom dick and harry with their mine/ I /me k@k attitude seems to want a piece of it these days.because its the hip and happening thing to do.

Aim was not to name & shame on a public forum, I was frustrated at the time and tried to post on their fb page but it was closed to members only. I was hoping that talking about it on the hub would encourage awareness to the problem - thanks for all the comments.

Name the club.

It would enhance awareness, won't it, darelinp?

eeek. it could of been City CC. we hit a stop street just before 'ou skip' a few seconds before a car coming out of van riebeeckstrand. i was the in the front and there was no time to signal or screetch to a stop, i looked behind and the rest of the bunch sailed thru. i wanted to signal thanks to the motorist but they never passed us so the vehicle must of turned left and drove off in the opposite direction.

btw it is our club policy to stop at red traffic lights - and we do - much to the annoyance of other groups who we come across.

Guilt admitted already.

CCC the same club whose members refuse to use the cycling lane on their Tuesday morning training rides.

i owned up that we ran a stop street in v r strand even though a vehicle was approaching. the op hasn't confirmed it was City.

wrt to "my" tuesday training ride. i arrange it with a group of cyclists from edgemead. we ride fast ie in excess of 40 kph. we ride on the road from Edgemead to Koeberg road, along Koeberg road to Paarden Eiland THERE ARE NO BICYCLE LANES FOR OUR GROUP to ride on. we encounter the 'bicycle lane' at the flea market. we are not obliged to use it as it is not part of the road, it is not a dedicated bicycle lane but most importantly of all, it is not safe for us and for approaching cyclists, dog walkers, runners, pedestrians when we are riding at 44 kph in the dark.

Hi guys,

This is an ongowing problem and is continually discussed on the hub. It does not matter where in the country you ride there will always be somebody that is not obeying the rules of the road.

I tend to agree with one or two of the replies saying that a person must do what is right and do your best and to be carefull and just hope that those that don't do not land up as statistics.

Have a lekka day and a great 2014

I've often wondered about the obligation to use the lane, to the extent that I don't worry to cycle in that direction any more.

I agree that is isn't really sport friendly and is more suitable for social riding.

However, it is there so I feel as if I'm wrong to be riding in the road ... a bit like crossing a road randomly when there is a pedestrian crossing or footbridge which should be used.

On Saturday I was our on my own on the bike. Headed out east to Boksburg. Wasn't really concentrating and took a wrong turn and after a few minutes looked up,as I went under a bridge and noticed the road I was on was becoming a freeway

I immediately turned around and rode as quick as I could to get back to roads legal for bicycles to use. It was only a few 100 m but a stupid mistake.

What I was most nervous of was not being caught by a cop. Not being run over by a taxi, car or truck.

No what I was most terrified of was being spotted by a hubber. By a MTB hubber with a handy cell phone camera in particular.

I have been lurking here in a state of some nervousness ever since fearful of spotting a thread titled " Stuipid roady on a freeway who is the reason all cars hate all cyclists and try to kill us and we deserve to die WTF!!!!!"

Agree with what others have been saying. YOU do what is right. It is being seen.

On a longish ride on Sat I was stopped by numerous red lights as well, plenty of times saw people watching... maybe they were just jealous, sitting in their cars! And pleased to say I ran across another guy toward the end of my ride, full CWC kit, who also stopped at all red lights.

I even arrived at a 4-way stop... either yesterday or Sat with a bakkie having arrived there (marginally) ahead of me. I stopped as usual, waiting for the bakkie to pull away. The guy smiles, thumbs-up me, then proceed to wave me through.

I think one must ride where it is the safest for self and others, and not use a facility just because its there. So if a cycle lane has pedestrians, social riders and dogs on it one cant reasonably accept its safe to ride 40 ks/ hr on the cycle lane, there are many other users who will be endangered, then rather use the road. Common sense prevails

Especially a 5 :00AM as CCC does it - I have ridden with them and seriously, that stretch past the Flea Market (nice wide yellow lane) felt much safer than riding through Montague Gardens on the way back to Edgemead.

I find this is generally the norm; if you make a show of slowing down for a stop street most drivers will wave you through. Which is nice...

I also stop for pedestrian crossings (as long as someone is waiting to cross of course!) this can cause some consternation as happened a few weekends ago riding into the Waterfront: I slowed down and unclipped one foot ready to stop as a large family with a wheelchair were waiting to cross.

A quick look behind and had a Yikes!! moment as a couple of bikes were steaming down looking like they did not expect me to stop.

Luckily they did stop in time but looked a bit wobbly.

In hindsight I probably should have looked behind sooner and made some sort of obvious signal, but I still would have stopped.
