Likewise - I use the Spez adjustable stem on my (non_spez) bike and use a "normal" top cap. I screwed the other one (and that spacer) off and inserted the new one.

Please enlighten me/us - what's wrong with that?! Why MUST we use the Spez cap - what can happen if we don't?

I use one of these anodized ones you can buy on the hub - "Shut up and ride" - fits perfectly inside (the hole on the top). Running -16 shim, but doubt that this will make any difference...

Does the cap seat flush on the top of the stem?

Nope. It's "inside" (not on top) the hole of the stem and the top of the cap ends up basically level with the top of the stem.

Bought a Specialized adjustable stem with a 4 deg shim (-8 : +16) and got 2 Specialized top caps options.

One cap fits inside the stem onto the top of the fork tube and the other fits on top of the stem leaving a slight gap to the top of the fork tube.

Installed the stem with the top cap on top, this cap had a offset bolt hole and according to Specialized the offset hole should face the thin side of the shim.

So far the stem is working like a charm, but its only been used on the IDT and not really tested properly on the road.

Hello guys,

Sorry to bring this up from 2 years ago, but I have some questions.

According to the instruction guide, it is recommended that the initial installation of the fork be done with the maximum allowed stack height (40mm) to allow the greatest range of adjustability.

What does that mean?!

The guy I bought the bike from, had cut down the steerer to a minimum so he could be in a more racy position. So I don't have a lot of play below the stem. Would I be able to fit a Specialized Comp Multi Stem?

And one more thing - I have a carbon steerer, so I need an EXPANDER PLUG. Is it possible to buy it separately? If so..Where?!

Thank you so very much :)

you could get one of these ravx stems but they are ugly as **** but you could play around with angels to your harts content

Those from Giant looks a bit better. Saw a few at CWC on thursday, price is around R600-R700. Bought one from Naas a few months back, was about R150-00 for a generic/ no-name.

I am happy with it, you can play around a really change your riding style by just adjusting 3 screws.

Thx FTZWKMTB, this will be my last resort, cause it's so ugly!

NotSoBigBen, I haven't seen it online anywhere (separately).

On Bike24.com they sell it as part of a chain tool (Link).

Any ideas?

Regardless, my question wasn't answered.

Considering the lack of space I have and the instruction guide by Specialized , would I be able to fit the Specialized Comp Multi Stem?
