brian1 Posted January 15, 2014 Share I am in the process of buying a bike, actually paid and done, picking up this afternoon. Anyway I visited 6 LBS in my area during the process and the differences were amazing. As a customer tightly gripping my plastic card in my sweaty palm all excited I know how I expected to be treated but alas. 2 shops really showed a lot of interest, they measured me and explained all kinds of things to me and made the experience a pleasure, 1 guy was friendly and helpfull but kind of "OMG Noob".2 shops were staffed with people decidedly not interested in their jobs but grudgingly spoke to me and 1 shop I have now been to 3 times and have yet to speak to anyone, the employees pretend to be busy or scurry off with "1 second sir". Amazing. My point is big Rave to Hot Spot cycles and Neil for superb service and you have a customer for a long time to come. Eugene Posted January 15, 2014 Share I visited 4 of the shops on your list whilst on a visit to Pretoria. Had no interest in buying anything, just wanted to look around. Not one person at anyone of those shops came over to me to ask if I needed help. In fact it wasn't even acknowledged that I exist. What if I was on the hunt for a new bike. Wilbies05 Posted January 15, 2014 Share whats with the LBS doing this, I sent my pride and joy in and prior to that I was mailed a quote and everything, drove 200km on a Saturday morning as Vryburg doesn't have a bike shop, arrived and should have known leave it, my bike was taken and left in the front of the shop by the door leading onto a road, i stood the owner came and asked me whats wrong I pointed out the obvious, that he has a sign saying not liable for loss or theft or damages, yet they leave my bike at the door, he chuckled took the bike and walked away, about an hour later got a call there was a issue with my chain, granted not quoted I said please replace, another hour later was told my disc brakes had oil on them and had damaged the rotors, i said hell no, went to the shop. All of a sudden the brakes were fine no slipping no noise no oil nothing (they wanted to charge me R300.00 for pads and R750.00 for rotors), im no professional so i dont require the absolute best, however when it came to paying the bill was all of a sudden R1940.00 as a pose to R1100 plus a chain, i asked WTF (annoyed with everything and my wife blowing steam out of every orifice of her body), was told they replaced the break cables / pipes and that's R280.00 a meter. i asked what for there was no problem, asked to see the old stuff guess what was thrown away and cleared convenient. The attitude was pay or dont get your bike, it was closing time so i paid and left with my bike, I swear i will never support that so called LBS ever again, that service cost me over R2600.00 in future i will drive to Bloemfontein to Cycle World to Jean and his crew where i know i am always treated as Royalty even though im just a guy loving cycling. Please excuse my laymen terms for bike parts and so forth as i said im no damn pro but i love the feeling and the freedom of the outdoors.
