IdeJongh Posted May 12, 2014 Share If you riding the Monster 80km you should be freaked out. I would put it on pr with Cradle Trophy 75km as a mate of mine has done Monster twice (6.5hrs and 5hrs) and he did 5hrs on Cradle this yr. I've only ever done the 45km monster and those first climbs are PROPER. The rest reminds me of MTN Rooiberg, there isn't much time to recoup cause even the downhills are tough. Im off to Sani, that's like my training ride for Monster (doing 80km first time). #Gulp Enjoy Sani
Dirt De Vil Posted May 12, 2014 Share Went over Breedts Nek twice on Saturday with total ride at 76km, 1570m ascent and time of 04hr49. I am revising my Monster estimate to 7hrs plus. Eina.
DieVlieg Posted May 12, 2014 Share Where does one start Breeds Nek. And more importantly where does one park safely. I desperately need to that as part of my training. Alex

There are signs when you enter Hekpoort from cradle or van Gaalen. When coming into Hekpoort pass the garage and shops on right then over little bridge and entrance to farmer is on left. I've got the same issues, and Im starting to stress. I wish these illnesses will just bugger of so that I can train. I'll clap a Heia safari red and yellow route this weekend seeing that I've trained since the beginning of May for the 45km race. I'm so glad I'm not you guys doing the 80km. I hope you guys are fit. Gen Posted May 16, 2014 Share I know.. one can't get fitter 2 weeks till the event, but hell it would've been nice to just get some riding done.. maybe a last bit of climbing, .. aye.. oh well.. doesn't matter... I will go suffer with the rest and enjoy the experience and take pics of the views BTW, does this race have starting batches.. ?

Eina.the biggest factor with the monster is the terrain, the total ascent is nothing, its the rocky, bumpy, sandy route that takes it out of you, double the total ascent to factor in the terrain to understand how tough it is..its a great race, but catches me out every year.. I did it first in 2007 and vowed never to do it again, then I rode the epic and after that I thought, now I am ready - I wasn't, it still broke me ;-) _David_
