rysmier Posted January 22, 2014 Share I'm in the market for a new 29'er. I'm 1.76m tall and currently own a large 26'er. Should I go for a medium frame 29'er? Or should I go for a small size with a longer stem and seat shifted more back? Input will be much appreciated.
Gandalf Posted January 22, 2014 Share http://www.thehubsa....hort-guys-29er/ pretty much the same discussion. but you will have to try out both setups to find what you like. Edited January 22, 2014 by Gandalf

canfan Posted January 22, 2014 Share I would also say Medium, Small will be too small for you, I am 1.74 and a medium is perfect for me.
Wuzzie Posted January 22, 2014 Share I am 178cm, I used to have a Scott Spark medium with longer stem 110mm. I just bought a Spec Epic and was advised large. Its proved a good choice I now have a shorter stem 70mm and it seems to help my control downhill, I suppose because i am just that much more back.Basically smaller bike is more jittery which on short rides is quite fun, larger more stable better for long stage races and general marathon.Initially I was not sure about L as I was used to M but no it feels 100%
Musketeer Posted January 22, 2014 Share I would also suggest to try a couple before deciding as frame sizes does vary between brands. Had a large frame on my 26er (Scott) and I'm currently riding an XL on my Giant XTC 29er. Only changes to the standard setup, I have put on a shorter stem and a straight seat post. I'm 1.86. El Scorcho Posted January 22, 2014 Share I'm 1.77m and on a medium 29er - I feel I can fit onto a large if I have to.

Felt much better.

Breezer Posted January 22, 2014 Share I am 1.78. When I bought my 29er I tested different bikes. The Giant, Gt and Merida medium bikes felt good, but the Silverback and Scott bikes was to small in medium. I bought a Silverback large and had to fit a 120mm stem. Try to get on different sizes of the bike you want to buy, because there is no standard in bike sizes. Edited January 22, 2014 by Breezer
