Event Name: PPC Kremetart Stage Race
When: 7 June 2014
Where: Louis Trichardt -, Limpopo
Category: Road

The Kremetart is a one day Stage race in 4 stages starting and finishing in Louis Trichardt.

 

The total distance is 175km.

 

The race first goes over (and under) the Soutpansberg and then around the Western end of the range.

 

Riders are fed and watered between stages, and the interval between stages is such that riders averaging about 28km/hr will get an hour rest between each stage.

 

After the race riders are fed again with a traditional bushveld "Potjie"

See they say you reach 90 km/hour on descend . Wow that is scary.

Willsee if I can make the trip for this one.

 

Some years ago I used to ride the route about once a month, setting out from home at about 2:30 am.

 

Going through the tunnels without a light at 3am was "interesting"

Going down the mountain I just followed the white line, and once when I it got light enough for me to read my cycle computer I discovered my maximum speed down in the dark was 86km/hr

This race..well our club looks at it as more like a bonding weekend, the atmosphere is amazing, the local are out in force, the ride is long hard and the beer at the end makes it all worth it. This is a jol...

And you go through a dark tunnel at those speeds, going from light to dark at 70km/h -90km/h is quite daunting!

not once but twice .. the first tunnel was unnerving not being able to see the rd... second was okay.. :)

I did it last year.

Booked accommodation for 2014 the day we left.

Great race. Just lunch last year was a problem. We will take our own lunch in a cooler box on the tog bag bus.

My SO went on the supporter bus, and by the end of stage three, they had convinced the Premier to arrange booze from the local shebeen.

She insists that I book the bus for her again this year.
