Geax Saguaro Tyre, will not go on the rim

Can't explain this but - hooohaaa - the second tyre went on last night and inflated without a hitch.

I tried without the valve core but the nozzle is just too loose. Thinking of devising some form of cover/seal made from an old tube to go over them to seal when inflating. Back to the story....

So I put the core back (sorry Rouxtjie but I had to try) and used the adapter to fit to my compressor. Held my breath, and......

It inflated! No problems whatsoever. Let it down and inflated again. Only one pop so I'm not sure if it's properly sealed but I let it down again, removed the core, poured in sealant, re-inflated and went to celebrate with a glass of Merlot. This morning it was still inflated so perhaps all is well.

I can only think that the first tyre gave trouble because I took them out out of the packaging and tried to fit straight away, so the tyres still had "packaging memory". The second one was lying flat in the back of my car for an extra 48 hours so perhaps that was the difference.

Anyway, I'm happy to have gone through all the pain and hope next time will be easier.

Cheers

Always a good idea to take it for a short ride afterwards. Helps with the "settling" of the tyre on the rim, as well as proper distribution of sealant.

Get back home, check all is well and inflate to correct pressure.

Agreed, I also usually pump to about 2 bar everyday for 3 or so days and rotate, just to make sure.

I've fitted them to a few rim variants.

The trick is (as Goya-Goya mentioned), to pinch the beads together and put them into the deepest part of the rim profile.

Move around the tyre, making sure as much of it as possible is in this "V".

Doing this should give you the much needed slack to pop in the last little bit with just 1 or 2 tyre levers.

I tried this last night with fitting my first geax tyre, the geax is a lot tighter than other tyres that i have tried. Whole task took 5 min, including taking off old tyre and cleaning rim with meths.

Depends on the rim, you can fit Geax tyres on WTB rims using only your hands.

How difficult is it to remove the Geax tyres from ZTR crest rims during or after a race? Also, I see some say that it is very difficult to get them on.

I am looking for a bulletproof tyre (I weigh 130kgs), so my options would be maxxis or geax if I want to go tubeless. I currently have nobby nic on (got them for free from a friend), but the thread is a bit to soft and the sidewall feels thin.

Any advice etc. please

after all the mother####ing grief my WTB's gave me, ZAR150 at the LBS was the best money I ever spent on my bike...

Excuse my language, but not being able to get a tyre on the rim is the most infuriating thing on the whole planet, esp when you want to RIDE the next morning.

I have Crests and Saguro:  I struggle every time I need to to change them.  To be honest, in a race situation, if I have to take a tyre off for what ever reason, I think my race will pretty much be over.  I can't see myself getting the tyre off and on with standard levers.

That said, in the 3 years I have been running them they have been pretty much bulletproof.  So that's kept me with them...

Leave the tyres in the sun for half an hour, then proceed as above.

And pray you don't trash a sidewall out on the trail.

As above and you need a set of strong nylon tyre levers, not those flimsy little plastic jobs.
