It would be fine, we're mostly discussing the latter part of OP's post.

I know

Just wanted to clarify that for what he wanted to use it for, the cheapie should suffice.

There is no such thing as a carbon stem, carbon wrap maybe yes.

Pretty sure that Zipp 145,Enve and new Ritchey C265 are all carbon.

Well priced and very shaxxy. Had one on my Bianchee mated with some sexy WCS Evo bars.

ARX Stealth aluminium stem, 125g, $110. Do the math, which one would you choose?

Yeah, it's an odd thing. I had a Syncros FR1.5 on my Scale which was 125g and cost R600, the maths related to a carbon stem didn't make any sense to me (or to my sensibilities which bombing through rock gardens).

Nope, not a heavy guy at all. Not sure what make it was.

The rider was Kalvin Perchase, probably weights 80kg max. It happened on the flatter pedal section of the downhill track as he hit the take-off of one of the small table tops. As far as I know he was on a GT fury but not sure if it was the standard stem.

The Giant connect stems are pretty stiff & has a fairly wide clamp base.

Those are around R180 & should be more than enough for a couple of years.

Edit: typo
