They offered him their help...

They confirmed for him that the bike was a fake. An official rubber stamp from the SA Distriubtor if you will.

They cant police every LBS to ensure that no dodgy dealings are taking place.

Their help was to offer AA assistance and advice on how to deal with the matter.

The rest is up to the lawyers and prosecuting authorities.

also watched the clip. they claim that the fake Pina owners came to them for fake bikes. Thats sounds like a load of tosh since I'm sure they would cover their behinds by handing over a piece of paper that says they divorce themselves from all responsibility in the event of frame failure.

I spoke to Robbie and here are the facts: they were all fully aware and totally informed that the pinarellos we're not genuine prior to the purchase. Despite being wealthy they wanted to save money but still have the designer label. After being humiliated in Australia and forced(?) to buy a new bike he develops a sense of indignation and self righteousness and exacts revenge by going the cowardly route and contacting carte Blanche, regardless of the fact that he is jeopardizing someone's livelihood. He only has himself to blame. No one put a gun to his head. Take responsibility!

I disagree with you!

this article was inspiring and glad it got sorted

In actual fact It was motivated me and my father in law to confront the guy who sold us 2 fake bikes.

An tips on how to approach him.

He sold my father in law a pinarello, which after watching carte blanche we can confirm is a fake. And after we asked him at least 3 times he confirmed it is a original pinarello.

And he sold me a rebranded cervelo s5, also multiple times I asked is it a geniune Cervelo and it was confirmed multiple times. and my lbs confirmed its a fake.

Only dif is we didn't pay 90k, we payed just over 35k each. So you might argue we got what we payd for. But he explicitly said its the genuine thing on multiple occasions and in front f multiple witnesses, and he is planning opening his own shop in randburg, so this might happen to more people soon, so if we can stop it now, we can also prevent future people from being scamed.

So you got scammed and then you tried recouping your money from fellow hubbers? While i feel your pain regarding your loss, but to then try and recover that money from some unsuspecting hubber is not cool. Thats just my opinion.

to get back to my earlier point I am sure there are many of us out here who want to know, if 2 frames come out the same factory in taiwan or china what makes the one so much better than the other,

please understand i think people selling no name bikes branded with a high end name should be hung up by the nuts, but I have been offered a frame by an importer who says there is no difference,

hubbers without being condescending give me advice

Fakes don't come out of the same factory. The main factories are tied into such heavy legal agreements and have tight controls or they will lose all their business from the big brands. Fakes are made in small carbon shops and there are lots of them. You can do a carbon fibre course, get your hands on a mould and start building bikes.

Last time I enquired and thats a few years back a open mold went for +- R250 000 per size and molds for older model frames that has already been facelifted or new models were launched went for even more so dont think your statement about lots of small shops are so spot on. There are only a few shops that actually make frames and they not that small. Most of the chinese selling blanks get their frames from the same manufacturers and are only agents although most will say they build their own frames. Also as far as I know there are 3 major factories that builds for the major brands of which the biggest is Giant who builds for quite a few other big names.

Surely nobody in their right mind will offer to pay 90K odd for a fake Pina. Having said this I can think that there are some people who probably did approach them to build up a fake Pina. Saves them going through the importing hassles but for 90K odd, I don't think so

Yup!

had this discussion many a time with friends.

Top end S-Weks Epic is quite a few penies more than a KTM 300 Six-Days.

And there is FAR more that goes into the Six-Days.

But yes, I guess it's because dirt biking might not be everyone's cup of tea, but nearly every other boardroom exec with more money than sense can blindly go buy a 100k+ MTB so he can do Nissan races with his friends... so these 'prestigious' brands charge whatever they want for the image.

*flame proof suit. hat. door*

The right price is the price that the market will bear.

Sheesh just watched the clip. Andrew, you've got the temperament of an angel. If I had P'sOS lying to my face like that, suggesting I take a lie detector test, I'd strip my moer big time. What utter douchebags.
