Yoh Hubbers

Just keeping the thread alive.

It has become a bit like an old Porn Star in the past few hours with every post almost faking an orgasmic hoohaah.

I suggested a hubber protest ride to Broadacres Shopping Centre Saturday 9a.m. You know, for a coffee :) So far only Dips, Escapee and r0adrunner are participating. We need more numbers!

Dishonesty affects us all. Based on this thread alone, most (with the exception of TheV and a few others), are up in arms about the brazen, arrogance of Cycle Psychos. Yet, alarmingly, nobody is willing to do anything about it. We feign mock indignation, but nobody is prepared to get involved.

Why don't a group of hubbers organise a ride to Broadacres Shopping Centre on Saturday morning, and pop in at the store? I don't advocate anything more than a show of solidarity for the OP. Just a "we know what you're up to, and the game is over" type visit. No harm, no foul.

Cycle Science will continue to fleece new customers daily and operate as they have in the past with absolute impunity if WE, cyclists in general and hubbers in particular, don't highlight this issue. Talk online is cheap, actions speak louder than words. C'mon fellows and fellowettes, organise a protest ride.

Edit: spelling

That borders on vigilantism. Which is also criminal.

Ask yourself how do shops get away with selling fake bikes and components in South Africa? I somehow don’t think I am alone in being scammed although I would like to post that R91,000 is the high water mark so far :( It is unlikely I would have ever have found out were it not for the LBS Turramurra Cyclery in Sydney. A shop the size of the coffee area at Cycle Lab. And yet within a minute of entering the shop they said my bike was fake. They took pictures and prepared a report very professional.

Now compare this to another Cycle Science victim (I know of three fake Pinarellos and one S-Works from this post) who took his fake Dogma to Cycle Lab to be set up. You know where they adjust the saddle height, reach, etc, etc. How come they (like the small LBS in Turramurra) didn’t tell him, ‘your bike is fake’? They happily set up his fake Dogma and told him how stunning it was!

Attached the letter I received from Turramurra Cyclery, pity they aren’t here.

Note to self, find new bike shop for service, mmm this might be tricky under the present circumstances perhaps wait a little bit first.

Get your bike serviced in Aussie. Or watch some You Tube, 90% of routine maintenance can be done by yourself (if you're into that sort of thing).

borders on, and is are too totally different things. and since you said the former, the last comment is moot. so what are you saying that's actually pertinent?

That aside, whatever that was, errm, shouldn't such mass action wait until they are proven guilty? There is no doubt that something's seriously amiss with that cycle store and this whole drama. But going their en masse handbags at the ready is tantamount to a guilty verdict. Mob justice without justice is going to a major bit of pie in the face to everyone.

also, if this mob thing goes amuck, what's this forum's and admin's legal position wrt hosting the call to such an event?

A peaceful protest ride, ending with a coffee at Europa around the corner, can never be construed as encouraging thuggery. Mere solidarity, nothing more.

Well guys and girls its been great fun and really entertaining. I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread the past couple of days. Between the Hub, Devi from Carte Blanche, the lawyers, 702 and The Mix radio stations, even perhaps something from ASG or Pinarello international it appears that Cycle Science may have realised that they were doing something wrong. I have heard that a refund was made to a Cycle Science Chinarello customer in the last 24hrs.

Its nice to see that Robbie and John have started cleaning up what is surely the biggest scandal to hit a cycling shop in a long time. It didn't have to blow up into the size scandal it has become, if only they had handled it differently from the start.

Perhaps we have all learnt something from this as it has been quite educational. Loads of laughs and a really cool vibe between Hubbers.

I hope the store will make good with the rest of the affected customers so they can try regain some of the reputation they had before they changed their ways. I look forward to seeing that.

 Didn't see that coming. You appear to have inside knowledge, how come?

A thief that is caught redhanded and subsequently hands back the stolen goods remains a thief.

I'm looking forward to hearing from the OP regarding the refund. Cycle Science will remain indelibly etched in our minds for a very long time to come.

Business seppuku....... to die with honour rather than fall into the hands of their enemies......not literally die but giving the benefit of doubt to the cycling community, cutting profit margins so low as too only keep the doors open (for a few months) and accepting the financial risks associated with such an activity. As the quote goes: "TRUST take years to build up, seconds to break and forever to repair."

If they did that in SA, no parastatal would have any management left.... oh, wait, they don't have management anyway, just fat pigs feeding!

Btw, Koos Bekker of Naspers, is the only SA CEO that doesn't earn a salary. Yes, he gets zip, unless the company makes a profit, then he gets paid in shares. Perhaps that is why they are such a well run business. I like it.

Sorry for the hijack.

Not being an expert can people fill in approximately costs here if they know: Do not have actual specs from OP, unless i misread (its a long fred this). Kinda curious on price differentials on these. There is obviously a market for the Chinarello out there as people are buying them (as long as buyer is aware they are Chinarellos :whistling: ). Populate the values in line with OP purchse, i.e. ignore groupo, tubes etc.

They are definitely guilty of supplying customers with fake frames and parts, so much has been established (even in their letter and conversations with OP they didn't deny it). What we are unsure of is how deep the rabbit hole goes....
