Brogue Posted April 3, 2014 Share Ask yourself how do shops get away with selling fake bikes and components in South Africa? I somehow don’t think I am alone in being scammed although I would like to post that R91,000 is the high water mark so far It is unlikely I would have ever have found out were it not for the LBS Turramurra Cyclery in Sydney. A shop the size of the coffee area at Cycle Lab. And yet within a minute of entering the shop they said my bike was fake. They took pictures and prepared a report very professional. Now compare this to another Cycle Science victim (I know of three fake Pinarellos and one S-Works from this post) who took his fake Dogma to Cycle Lab to be set up. You know where they adjust the saddle height, reach, etc, etc. How come they (like the small LBS in Turramurra) didn’t tell him, ‘your bike is fake’? They happily set up his fake Dogma and told him how stunning it was! Attached the letter I received from Turramurra Cyclery, pity they aren’t here. Note to self, find new bike shop for service, mmm this might be tricky under the present circumstances perhaps wait a little bit first. "The saddle and bar/stem are parts that we regularly sell and we are confident that they are in fact fake" Unfortunately worded sentence, easily misunderstood. Yes, great service from a real LBS that prides itself in the work that they do. It's a Dog(ma) eat Dog(ma) world out there!. Spoke101 Posted April 3, 2014 Share Just a thought. Maybe the reason the Aus bike shop picked up on it so quickly is down to them being geographically a lot closer to Asia where most of if not all the fake stuff comes from? I also know that fake bikes as well as unbranded bikes are big in Aus and has been that way for a while, so maybe we just starting to catch up. Given that the shop the OP went to was an authorised Pina dealer, yes they should know the difference and there brands inside out. But last time I checked CL wasn't a Pina dealer, maybe I'm wrong? I have seen Pinarello bikes in new Cyclelab store in Fourways. Spoke101

Smartie Posted April 3, 2014 Share Use something else petrol's to expensive to waste on low-life's like them. True. Plus, for all we know, they could have built a fire pool with the profit from all their sales Lexx

GoLefty!! Posted April 3, 2014 Share It is shocking how blatant the market is for fake bikes! It took two minutes on Aliexpress to find dozens of pinarellos for sale. Anywhere between 500 and 800 US dollars each. Even Specialized S works, now called V Works. big reason why Specializedis moving production to Taiwan this year for next years models.
