This is both good and bad, good that the event is so well supported, bad that I haven't entered yet....Didn't realise there can be limited entries on a small local fun ride....pity

Also have some egg on the face, never thought a small local fun ride would sell out before the entries even close!

Oh well, next year...

Thanks for entering the Darling Brew Extreme MTB Challenge!

Pre-entries at Chris Willemse, Willowbridge on Wed 28 and Thu 29 May from 14:00 to 18:00, and at the Darling Brew Tap Room on Friday from 14:00 to 20:00. Come and enjoy local Darling cuisine and beer next Friday with a pre-race special: Ostrich burger and lager @ R80.

T-shirt orders can be collected from the Darling Brew stand on Sat 31 May.

If you have not paid yet, please do so ASAP. The system will delete all unpaid riders as soon as we have reached our capped totals. If you paid by EFT - it takes up to 48 hours to show on our side - if it's off your account, you have paid!

The route descriptions are on the website - scroll down! www.darlingbrew.co.za

I see the new e-mails sent out changed the "Pre-entries" to REGISTRATION. So registration is on the day, or at CWC or the tap room before the weekend as stated.

I must admit, I really really really respect that. Putting the rider first, wow. I am impressed. See you guys next weekend, looks like it is going to be a wet one.

I just chatted to one of the locals. The long route has 1200m of climbing, with a nasty sting in the last bit. 35 is flat, with only one long climb in the beginning. And he reckons a sealant topup is a great idea.

I can't wait, if the weather turns crappy I'm taking the singlespeed and a backpack with lots of food. will still be an adventure...

I remember in 2011 there was supposed to be a Darling mtb race that was cancelled due to lack of interest & bad planning, 3 years later it is sold out days before the closing date. Impressive how our sport is growing!

So the weather forecast for raceday is 15 deg max, cloudy with rain. I reckon you could easily half that for the 07h30 start! brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

These guys?

At school I had a friend from a farm in the area. We would pull each other on a "going sak" sled with the land cruiser on the sandy roads between the vineyards. (The idea was to offload your buddy from the 'sled'.)

The amount of rugby jerseys and overalls we had to wear as protection against these "duwweltjies"... He had a very nice sister though - that would help pulling out the thorns in the evening.. priceless youth :)

Duwweltjies, cold, rain and lots of flats  Oh well, I'm sure there'll be some fun in between.
