Do you know where SARS draw the line on imports regarding a full bike? Or should it be complete seperate parts?

No I don't. Best person to ask would be Lexx here on teh Hub. He's a SARS / Customs employee.

If you ship over enough parts to make a bike they will categorize it as a full bike when they do the inspection.

In days gone past you could have got them to send the frame and wheels in one box and the rest in another box a week later and label it all as spares.

SARS are more jacked these days and would probably piece the puzzle together.

Then they would by up your arse with a microscope and you dont want that

But 30% duties ... Hell and then also shipping costs .. could hurt

Cheaper to fly to Germany and get them to bring it to you at the airport. Ride around the car park a few times to second hand it and bring it home from your " Biking Holiday "

Jeeeees People. How many times do I have to say this.

  • Go to the Alps somewhere.
  • Nigel is going to Les 2 Alps soon.
  • Take a crappy bike in your box.
  • Leave that in a dumpster there.
  • Get your YT delivered to your Chalet
  • Ride it in the Alps
  • Bring it home.

Omega man, starting to think that is a very viable option.

Had a look at the 2014 Shedule 1 and it gives duty on complete bicycles at 15%.

Well got a reply back from YT Industries only saying it is not possible to ship to South Africa (Cape Town), no reason given why not. Asked why, so waiting for the reply.

They don't need to. Simple.

If you want one and plan to go get it tho make sure you will get it when they say you'll get it. I know they've had supply chain issues in the past. I spoke to a German guy in Morzine 2 years ago and he'd ordered one of those 11/11/11 special edition bikes and his was delivered 4 months late.

It was damn nice tho.

Because there is a South African agent. Why would you grey import if there is an agent?

I thought they don't do agents. They only do direct factory to customer. That's why they're so cheap. Problem is you have a warranty issue, you better have family or a mate in Europe who they can send it to who's happy to forward it on to you. And you may have a big schlep, a long wait and big hassles in the end. So you risk it and better hope nothing goes wrong. But it's such a cool looking bike at such a good price it might just be worth chancing.

From the website:

Sales and Distribution

Why do YT bikes have such an incredible price/performance ratio?

That is no magic but is mainly due to our distribution.

YT Industries products are only sold direct through our website, meaning the manufacturer sells directly to the consumer. Margins for wholesale and retail, that are included in traditional distribution channels, don’t incur in our model. This price advantage is passed on directly to our customers.

We waive retail shops and continuously optimize all steps in the development, production and distribution process in order to reduce costs wherever possible. This is why we can offer high quality products at a much lower price than our competitors.

No .. YT do not have international agents - they only ship inside Europe at the moment - the dont even ship to the USA yet.

You purchase the bike direct from the manufacturer - thats how they can get the prices so cheap.

So ... no Nomads available worldwide according to Spoke .... and the YT's will not be ready for shipping by the time I go to Europe.
