I learnt the hard way - never use Stan's

I had the same problem on my mavic crosstrail rims, but it was my fault. I could not find any tubeless sealant so I used normal puncture free sealant for tubes.

Strange, bad luck

Been using Stans for years and never seen anything like it.

Fresh Stans + Maxxis Crossmark/Ardent = never, ever get a flat! I've even stopped carrying a spare tube around.

Definitely not the Stans. I've used it on XTs and never had a problem. How's your second rim? If that's OK with the Stans then it's a different issue, look for other possible problems.. especially as it looks like just around the valve

Yea second rim was still perfect . I just checked I do have two different valves one silver thread and the other one has copper/gold colour the ones rubber section does sit better in the rim.

Might be that I did over do the tighting of the valve In order to get the valve to seal.

What is think:

AL that is anodized is hard and does not react with Stan's , as soon as there is any imperfection in the anodizing the Stan's attack the AL, so in my case when I over tightened the valve I damage the Anodising at the valve hole giving the Stan's a place to attack .

Next time I'm at a bike shop I'll buy a small bottle of Stan's I'll then place on piece is bare Al and one piece of anodized Al in a bucket of Stan's and report back after a few weeks

I'm also used to run Maxxis Crossmarks and Stan's , done about 1500km flat free kilometers

Very interesting. I uses stans in both tubes and tubeless... Tubeless setup is with ZTR Alpine rims, stans rim tape and Rocket Ron tyres.

Only issue that I have noticed, was after about a year, the valve pulls out from the tube in non tubeless setup. But I cannot recall a single puncture with stans.

Google galvanic corrosion. That what happened there. Most likely the one valve was cheaper "mild steel" type and then touch the aluminum. Add road dirt/salt and water and rest is history

I think we have winner, this makes sense. One rim corroded , one rim perfect, two different valves used.

So Stan's is only safe with AL rims if you use the correct valve.

It's not the Stan's bud....

Did you read all the links I posted?

Inconclusive to say the least ....

No not yet but thanks, busy reading the first one now .

I just went to inspect the valves more closely now , the silver one does seem to have "rust" on the bottom and the other one is perfect

I'm not an active hubber so I was not aware that Stan's will destroy Al rims.

After three months one of my new XT rims are ruined by Stan's, there should be a HUGE warning on the bottle

Luckily the rear one was not affected post-1290-1398088536,3397.jpg

Dont you dare blame Uncle Stan for that. Stan is the man, he would never do that to rims

Shimano have been warning against sealant with their rims for some time, makes no sense, in fact UST makes no sense as it was designed to work 'dry' - why on earth would you run a tubeless tire without sealant, 1 thorn and you would have to plug or fit a tube.
