Can't help but think something else is going on. Maybe just injury and loss of form. But, I think the expectation on Froome last year was far greater than this year, and he delivered without missing a beat. Something else is wrong here this year if you ask me.

Chris has had some bad luck this year with health, and certainly not on the trajectory to the top of the top like he was this time last year. What's also different is the massive expectations now.

Grumps The Wig says he would like to ride the tour, and happy to be in a support role.

Indeed, more or less better put than me. :)

I would like to see Wiggins ride, its a pity his suggestion he may ride the Giro didn't really pan out as I think he would have been a strong competitor, but I also think Wiggins is a very strong personalty, he wont like riding in support even if on the records he says he will.

If he rides, and I sincerely hope he will, like any world class athlete he will ride to win, I dont think playing second fiddle will be on his agenda.

El Niño had to get special authorization from the Swiss Cycling Federation as well as the UCI to ride World Tour.

Has this ever happened before?

Froome did pretty well in the opening prolog, granted its only a 5 k ride and not a great distance or course to predict form (very narrow and twisty turner) but he was 5 seonds behind the world champion and 10 seconds behind the overall winner, keep in mind he started last and had a stronger headwind than the earlier riders.

Sky are sly, imo last year they did to much (look how many different races they dominated) and i think this year they are playing their cards for the TDF, everything else is not a major factor.

Without being funny and condoning doping.....remember the last person to dominate the TDF (he won 7 tours) by focusing on just the TDF, thats how you do it, not by trying to win every race you enter.

Here's to hoping Froomie can show some Vroom in the next few days. I dont expect to see him win, but to be close.

Yeah, but Lance still had major early season goals. Like Amstel, Algarve and so on.

Like I said, I hope sky are sandbagging and that Chris shows some form soon, but time is running out to get Tour winning legs.

Richie was also part of the Vroom success story, remember the scenes of the last stage on the Criterium International last year where both were in front? They do have a bit of catching up to do, in terms of team momentum, things certainly have withered after two great years.

Grumps what I have read is that The Wig does not harbor any grand tour ambitions as for now, perhaps some stages, his next big thing is back on the track for Rio. He has become much of a team worker, ie his support role for Gee in PR and just the great achievement of finishing with the top bunch there. I think he took a big blow to his morale in his performance and withdrawal in the Giro last year, and has re-grouped since then, with a much more positive mindset, and I for one am happy he has dumped his Mod look and those silly sideburns in favour of much more mature trimmed beard he sports nowadays.

Kwaitkowski takes honours in the prologue

This young PRO is really making some impressions.

Another new generation rider. Cool!

Looking forward to the battles over the next decade between your boy and Kwaito... both been playing off each other since the were groms. Both packed to the rafters with skills.

Froome gonna show you guys just whats up ;)

I do think Porte was a big player in Froomes success in the TdF, so we'll see...

I remember the first mountain stage in last years tour, sky was dominating, the next day. only froomey was left to fend for himself. luckily they had a rest day there after.

Think stage 8&9. Movistar was mostly responsible for stage 9s drama.

Then again in the xwinds, think stage 16, saxo blew everything wide open. Only froome again.

So we will see, does make everything interesting.

Exactly what the drugs did, made cycling entertaining.
