Had my run in with Fred at Cyclesure a couple of years ago, he accused me of fraud by claiming the bike was stolen. Bike was found in Mozambique by a fellow hubber. I paid R5k to get it back just to prove to him. Will not deal with them ever again.

Eish....

This thread has cost them three time the amount of carpet's frame already in reputational value.

Currently with Garrun Group, they are not cheap but don't give you crap.

That is really the thing isn't it....insurance in any form is such a grudge purchase...I mean, they take your money and you have nothing tangible for it. The only thing they offer is peace of mind, when you find out that this isn't the case....its overs.

Must say, I cycle have been great for me so far. Premiums are good, and when I had a claim for my wheels, I got paid out. I did have to argue a little with the clearly junior assessor, but got paid out and was riding new wheels in a few days...

It appears ironically that because Cyclesure specialize in bike cover they have more onerous terms and exclusions than a normal insurer would expect.

If you lock your bike with a reasonable lock and it's forcibly stolen you have cover from most most normal insurers, with Cyclesure if you haven't used a lock they prescribe you get no cover etc. And now it seems for hijacking they want the hijacker to make you bloodied and battered or failing that you can take a hike if you expect to make a claim. To add insult to injury after all the trauma of such an awful situation they will basically be accusing you of fraud if you came out unscathed but sans bicycle.

Way more, I'm looking at a R30 000 bike in a few months time and my friend a similar amount. Would have insured with them, by default almost as they should be the specialists. Well never gonna happen now, and I'll be taking a looking at my other insurance policies too.

Exactly....a response from them would have been good...no response just cements what everybody is thinking.

They must be wondering why their callcentre is going ballistic today...if only they knew

I would be curious to know what their ruling is for a Thule roofrack with bikes on.

How the hell do you lock that other than the thule locks on the ratchet?

Do they expect me to put a chain on the roofrack and stuff up the roof of my car, then... in doing that will they cover the repair for the scratches said chain will make on my roof?

Its a pity that there isnt some insurance guru form the insurers on the hub that can explain instead of sibongile from the call center who poorly reads from a script.

I have had my bike and peripherals insured with them for a few years now and they have always paid out on the smaller stuff that I have claimed, torn bibs etc. However my sister was insured with them and her brand spanking new MTB fell off the Thule on the highway on the way home and they refused to pay out for it, claimed it was her negligence. That highjacking clause really freaks me out so I guess I will also be looking at moving my insurance. Its no like they are cheap either, I pay them around R800 an month. So I think after this post they are going to experience a massive knock to their monthly turnover. Would have been much better to just pay out the claim.

Wow if only there was some sort of cover you could get for when stuff like that happens, maybe that you pay a monthly fee for.....oh wait...
