We may go see those bodies. Going to try and pick up Friday or Saturday, and I do not expect to find a completed bike.

And??

And??

After no further coms from Wynand, I went to his house on Sat. morning 8am.

There is no bell or the like to contact the main house from the street gate, but my Harley is loud, or at least some of my neighbours have told me.

Standing on the street I could see shadows moving behind the blinds. Called a few times, no answer, sent a few messages, no answer, sent a final message saying come out or I am going to the police ... no answer.

Went to the Goodwood Police station, was met by the Cpt. who heard my story and promptly arranged for two police officers to accompany me to the house again. (Side note, the GW Police were exceptional to deal with). We get to his house, the Police call out loudly and a lady comes out.

Apparently Wynand and his family were out for the day as they had to "go feed the horses".

Police get her to call his wife, his wife tells her Wynand says that only the battery needs to be connected and the seat put back on and he says her son (Who I think has been helping him out) can do it. She goes inside, and her son tells her that the bike still needs the flywheel to be fit and Wynand needs to do this.

Police advise her that he must do the work on Sunday and I am collecting Monday, I note 18:00 to give enough time. Officers tell me afterwards that they are working night shift on Monday, so if I need them I must just let them know.

Sunday = Radio Silence.

This morning a long sop story.

1. his feelings are hurt because I came there with the police and he was not home, and people in the street are asking questions.

2. now the stator coil has been sent for rewiring, and will be ready tomorrow.

3. then his engineer apparently cut a new keyway in the crank, and now needs to make a new woodruff key to fit.

4. he notes if I want to collect my bike tonight as I wanted, the bike will not be running. he can get his guy to drop it off by me today.

5. then he asks for time and says the bike will be ready before the 1st of Jan.

Too late I recon.

Asked him for the details of the guy who has my stator. He will send this later as he is driving....sure ... but you can send text and voice notes while driving.

Asked for confirmation of the crank being in the bike. No definitive given.

Asked that his guy get the bike loaded on the bakkie, and I will come through to see what is all on the bakkie and will then escort him to my house.

1. he comes back now saying his bakkie is out on a farm where a guy too a quad to his farm, and his is only getting this back tomorrow. Can we arrange for the collection tomorrow.

2. just listened to his one note again, it sounds like the bolt and washer for the crank and the woodruff key is with the engineer. Need confirmation on this.

At this point, I want to the bike back with the parts or the details of the people who have the parts and I will get the rest.

On inspection before coming home I will look for simple things like the air filter that was meant to have been replaced, are there new oil filters on the bike, is the sparkplug new, etc. before leaving.

One big &^#$N up.

So went from battery to be connected and seat put on to the bike is clearly not even remotely ready?

I would go back to the police and lay a charge of theft if that is possible.

Hard one as he had a deadline for 6pm tonight.

Busy trying to find a bike trailer so that I can pick up the bike today still, even if it is after 6pm.

Go hire a bike trailer, borrow a tow car if necessary. Take tie downs, ropes etc and somebody to help load...

I have asked him to return my bike, even though the work is not complete, but I do not trust or can wait for him anymore to get the job done.

He should be here before 9am, and if not I have a bike courier booked. Could not hire a trailer or get a courier for yardstick a i was going to fetch the bike.

Will need to first assess what was done vs what was paid for and see how this bike is mechanically overall.

But at least she is coming home.

You can safely assume that what was paid is gone.

You should focus on salvaging as much value as possible. First you want a complete bike with all the parts to assemble it back into its original condition. Even if some of those parts are damaged or scrap - you need the old ones to repair or replace. If parts have been sent to subcontractors, get details of the subcontractors and go and collect the parts and be prepared to pay outstanding amounts to the subbies for work done on them. If you lucky, none of your parts will have found there way onto other customer's bikes..

Smile and wish the man Merry Christmas, you may well need to contact him again in the New Year...

Then comes decision time - sell it as a project, or keep it as a project....

Bike arrived, odds and sods missing with the major one being the stator cover missing.

Now I know the guy who had second hand parts and hehe told me the day before this guy was looking for a second hand stator cover..... so I would love to know what happened to my one.

Gave him 24 hours to get it all back or else I report it stolen to the police. This includes the oil and filters, air filter, etc.

That's positive news for the 1st time in xxx days?

Don't panic about the filters - I am sure they can be bought (again) for an (un)fair price.

But make a detailed list of the missing hardware items. Even small ones are going to cost you hours of hassle trying to find, make, improvise etc. One or two too many missing might make the project unviable.

Wynand is still scraping together parts.

Given Christmas and New Year I have not pushed too hard. Will do so from tomorrow again.

Bought a heat gun to run over the sun faded plastics to see if it will breathe a little life into them  ... certainly works well, but you need to have a deft hand and work slowly.

He has a good used stator for me.

Tracked down the radiator guards, throwing in a spare petcock, and somet other odds and ends he has related to the motor that he has no use for from other older projects.

He is "trying to track down" a stator cover as per this screen grab he sent.

I still want the other goodies that have been paid for, oil with filters, air filter, etc.

So making a loss on his labour that has been paid for, but at least have my bike and foresee a quick fight and shove to get the last bits out of him.

Unbeknown to him, I do have access to a stator cover ... but this will be at a cost to me, so trying to make him solve the problem first, before I need to purchase anything.

Will drop the sump plug tonight when it is cooler in the garage .... keen to see if there is any copper residue sitting there, or if the motor has been opened and cleaned out like he said.

Go a bike "box lift" from a friend which will make working on this bike a little more forgiving on the back.

Happy New Year All.
I recently returned from a quick 5 day trip up to Verneukpan for New Years.  My son came down from Josie and rode my T7 while I took my old faithful Big Orange 1190. The riding was awesome  bar several sections of deep sand that proved to be my nemesis on the approach road to the pan. Managed to keep the bike upright thankfully. The pan itself was super hard surface so we had a blast ripping around aimlessly. IMG_1834.jpeg.899dc8da3c50adbc8560ec78951d8d4e.jpegIMG_1833.jpeg.f209d279e662c409d6d1a28287f59de0.jpegIMG_1831.jpeg.fa5d34850408fcdcd8d6c93d136c569d.jpegIMG_1830.jpeg.487369adc970e9f747258b6803fcf7d5.jpegIMG_1829.jpeg.90e8a9372d0660b14111823b21bf0094.jpeg

Love that area. One day when I retire I aim to spend a year in the area. Soaking up the sun and listening to the cicadas
