I chat quote often with a guy in Bloem - his name is Johan.  He seems to be able to track down quite a few parts especially for dirtbikes.  I can send you his number if you like.  I have ordered from him before so he is legit

the one lead I have had before with the two guys who own a 940 as a "spares bike" might be a hot lead now RE the flywheel. The one rider has asked me what I would offer for the FW and he can then chat to his riding buddy ..... so holding thumbs here

Around 10 days ago I did a trip to Bike Forge for their Rock Fest. I spent the first day through the Overberg and unfortunately back up to Swellendam after 5 hours as the pont was closed at Malagas. Back on the dirt there was lekker road just outside Riviersonderend  that joined the N2 near Caledon.  The trip home on the Sunday was stunning…….took the turn to Klondyke cherry farm to cut through to Touws Rivier. At 30 kms up the N1 the Witteburg turnoff is a road worth doing. Runs parallel to the N1 for 62kms to join the tar south of Laingsburg. I then tracked along the mountains to Seweweekspoort, Huiserivierpas one and two then Oudsthoorn and home. The big 1190S never fails to surprise me at the capability of the bike with the correct tyres fitted. Currently running Annakee Wilds at 2 bar front and 2.2 Rear when on the dirt. This bike is a definite keeper. Of interest, perhaps…..I am trying a 110/80/19 profile front V normal 120/70/19. Difference is notable . Marginally less stable on the tar but more accurate on the dirt. Just turned up 85500kms on this trip. Gunning for the 100000 mark!IMG_1972.jpeg.8d9009f93ac200b4e79a8d67698b4131.jpegIMG_1971.jpeg.25b18c7bd2e798658c903c948018bad2.jpegIMG_1970.jpeg.7f799eff5e84811658c4e8a04c4ec28a.jpegIMG_1969.jpeg.4d3aa0653a34506ec1687a40501e191b.jpegIMG_1968.jpeg.47c907a626ed0efdc2f823b0c1d5177f.jpegIMG_1967.jpeg.086b7ca50dc455cdbaeb8be61aba1348.jpegIMG_1966.jpeg.1772c4b90585f2fcec60b563eaddca4b.jpeg

I am now back in Dubai for sim recurrent, luckily I got onto last nights flight after landing from George. I was due to fly today at 1000 but turns out the flight was cancelled. That would have created a large drama for me as I have already postponed the sim by two weeks.  Anyways, in the interim I took the 31 year old FZR for a burn up on the Pass. Had to fit a new front tyre as the wheels were resprayed and the muppets stuffed up the bead on refitting my tyre……..yes a very low mileage new Pirelli GT Angel…….so, new one fitted and had to see that the old girl handles as well as she ever did!

Turned up all the 7’s……around 125 300 kms.IMG_1974.jpeg.4f1c2ab2d4d61eee021192739438ecab.jpegIMG_1975.jpeg.c272ac2d9c013a900c9bbae5fc74f167.jpeg

Spokey that gravel road ride looks amazing. I rode a similar road out from the north end of seweweekspoort which then heads south, also kind of parallel to the Bay, coming out at Laingsburg. Unfortunately I didn't know of you road or I would have taken it rather than joining the N1 South from there

So the old Velocette is almost done and I don't want to start on another 2-year + project right now so figured maybe I must do another quick 6-month DT rebuild.  Some time ago I bought 3 scrappers from a guy who was going to dump them and when I got them home I realized that the one actually ran and that between the three I could definitely build one, and possibly even two.  I'm over doing OEM restorations on DT's - you spend way to much time and money, and these bikes really aren't collectable, so I figured this one I might do something a bit different in terms of colours.  So - ChatGPT is a friend here, and I have three renderings.

Which one should I go for.......

The black frame

I'm tempted to go with the red frame too - it's not to everybody's taste but this one is for me, not for the purists out there who frown because someone has used the wrong colour green for the olive zink plating!
