Correction, that number is going to go up.

From the mechanic.......It is looking like a fault along the earth in the loom somewhere.

And then you switch on the ignition to start the bike and it starts oozing power out of the wiring

Yup.  And once the smoke has escaped from the harness there's no putting it back in again

I don't know the extent but I am tempted to say; moenie panic nie.

These bikes have simple wiring BUT IMHO very thin gauge so it can get chafed and crack when old. Usually blows a fuse to guide you to where the smoke escaped.

Box 2 is that the ignition switch powers the headlights etc so it takes more current than it should for long term and burns the contacts. Usually given away by light not working but can spread to ignition. In some cases old switch can be repaired but very fiddly, so new switch from Startline (find somewhere to put it) and a generic relay, as small as possible, for the lights. Change indicators to LED with LED flasher relay same time.

Already got the indicators changed over to LED's while it has been in this workshop.

Secured a second hand loom last night, including a pair of engine mounts as it seems the chop who worked on the bike before lost the mounts.

Had Uber deliver the loom this morning, and the good mechanic noted that there has been work on the loom and not all the switch bits are on. With the old and new loom, and a little extra cable he will stitch them together. At least I have a few spare items that are on the loom for any future issues (Switchgear being one of them).

So a few extra days added on to the race no. and I also need to accept that I am bumped down the list of projects too for a day or so as this was completely unexpected and other bikes are also in line for work.

Are we actually going to be into the 300's with a race no. .... maybe, but I think not!
