It’s quite “easy” to write off a bike these days. The parts are horrendously expensive and even if scratched the owner can insist on rep, ace, ent parts which drives the price of repairs. Insurance companies have a threshold. Iirc it’s around und 60percent of the value of the bike. If one sources second hand parts or use one’s own elbow grease very often one can viably repair a written off bike.

that said, its value will always be lower than a similar bike that’s not written off. Here it’s about 30 percent lower. And check it out thoroughly to make sure it’s all straight.

my mate only buys previously written off vehicles. His car was written off due to the bumper needing to be replaced and a few odds and sods. That was at 25000 miles. It’s now on 160 000 miles with nary an issue with it. He ha s an R1 and a vfr800 both having been previously written off. Not problems at all.

but caveat emptor.

no jokes ... when I go out and then get back home the wife has been going like a machine ... something about since working from home with covid, she does not like doing the work while I am here as I 1. get in the way 2. ask what she is doing 3. am on calls or Zoom meetings, etc.

works for me I say :P

Is this a bit of a risk for a 2016 with 95K on the clock ... I have asked for a service history ... so waiting for that

I think the other one at 71k kms looked better.

if it's been thoroughly serviced and maintained it should be reliable. But there will be some mileage associated costs over the years ahead. Just one of those things

AAMOI, I think my router is listening to me and with the discussion of GS related things here I am now getting BMW ads targeted at me. Specifically for F850 GSA which dealers are now discounting at close to 20 percent.

IMG_0851.jpeg.30b39f4b215a99dc5bbb75f0fadc2409.jpegI saw this on the MCN FB page. The proposed Yammie R9 with the absolutely gorgeous MT09 engine. I first road an MT09 at one of the Kyalami shows when the machine was new to SA. What a stellar engine. This would be a beautiful use of the triple engine. I miss an MT09 from my collection. This moves me big time, the colours of the ‘98 R1……..wow! My 60 year old brain says stick with my T7 ADV…….Actually the T7 with the CP2 engine is certainly a keeper. Lovely engine too.
