Quick breakdown on certain issues. It is a requirement to have a valid(?) Lisence and matric (?). It is however not a requirement to have a lisence when you apply for a civilian post,ie groundsmen ect. But it just so happens that some bright spark had an idea to create "lateral/external" posts. This means that any person, whether a Saps member or civilian, may apply for such a post (which is almost 100% certeain to be a officer's post). This means, that the member, who in some cases are committed to his work, are being negatively affected,by not being promoted. Such a person, who skipped the whole transition from college to functional, are now in a position to issue instructions to other members, and in short, giving the Saps a very bad name (such as learning how to drive for example). It is a bery long, very spiralling story to tell, and not worth going into it,as it is not going to change. Another reason for the Police "learner" drivers (lol),are that whenever a member gets into a lot of state accidents (no fixed number however),the commander of such member may at his/her own discretion send such a member to the so-called "driving school".

By no stretch of the imagination am i even close to a runner, I rate my chances better than average running away from these clowns,,,,,,unless they shoot me in the face with a shot gun, they seem to like doing that

And the firearm competency is a complete nightmare to share, trust me.

......and we obviously pay (indirectly) for all the damage and injuries caused by these inexperienced SAPS members........because it is not their property and by some magical process the infrastructure will maintain itself. Wonder what will happen if the "You break it, You pay" rule is implemented.

Also, the blatant disregard for the basic road use rules......the use of indicators, the use of seatbelts, not using a cellphone, stopping in such a manner as to not obstruct the traffic flow, etc.

It's called uplifting people! Most of the guys don't have R2 to there names, by putting them trough the k53 u giving them a basic skill that can be use again and again. Better than spending the cash on let's say a lavish home!

So I remember growing up on the platteland the SAPS ommies played rugby and everyone wanted our SAPS team to beat the other towns one!...

every quarter them, the town cricket team and the schools first team will have a little cricket tourney...

They used to jog together...

They were strong and fit - And I think it was part of their job discription, no? Or maybe they just had PRIDE in their work to protect the community

Seems like all that is lost (well it IS)

Well if that is your view on this how do you feel about the army guys receiving training?

Should persons that want to become pilots go and get their licence before they enrol to the army? Why must we pay for them to receive training on how to fly a plane and handle a firearm?

Is the army/police academy not a government institution that people can use to get further training and education whilst working for them. As far as I know you can enrol at the army and they pay for your studies/training whilst you work for them. How is a SAPS driving school any different.

Seems like however our government decide to use taxpayers money people will complain. At least the Chief of police is not buying himself a new fancy car or spending 10mil on an end of year dinner.

I think its a great initiative

So something that is irritating me.

In Benoni is a large SAPS mechanical school. One of the functions is a police learner driver program.

There are a crapload of police cars with learner stickers (in excess of 50 in the main parking area) all branded as learner vehicles.

These same cars crawl around the area at 14kmh doing silly K53 manoeuvres all day.

Surely having a drivers license should be a job requirement when applying to be a police officer?

I am not talking about advanced driving....

Secondly...whats the cost to Johnny Taxpayer for this little program?

Surely if we only employ licensed police officers, those funds could be used to train or hire more officers?

Dude, try my 'burb. Because of the wide roads, the driving schools hog it at all hours. Have had my gate smashed twice by them now.

for some reason saps is a glamorous place to work for many...maybe cos there is opportunity for money on the side?

I am all for uplifment, as was mentioned earlier...but what about nursing? what about upliftment programs in a trade?

sorry...seeing the state of some saps members - I can only see this programme as a big money pit
