if you do well in your first 60KM ride do they move you up the next year?

Yes! Started in E last year and off in the C group this year. I also made it onto the homepage of the website

Did a 3:18 the last two years, 60km, on both occasions, hope to be there and there about again this year.

I just hate hill starts tho, they stuff me up gloriously, takes me 15km to get my mojo going

I also rode the 42km in 2012 at about 2:25ish, and last year the 60km was also my first longer race - much like your situation now.

I didn't go hard last year, rode within myself on all the climbs, and only pushed myself for the last say 10km. And if I remember correctly I rode about 3:40.

Thanks, can breathe a little better now. Look for the SMURFY on the Neon helmet. B455. Thats the last time you will see me before you snakes take off. :w00t: :w00t: Looks like good weather. YR.NO predicts 25 degrees.

Ahh cr*p so that means for my first MTB race a M start for 42km is not great at all.

Kind of like starting The Argus in the open groups and wanting to do under 4 hours.

So - only one start group for the 75km?

I can't remember how it was last year - was there any kind of seeding?

Or first to load - first to start?

I started stone last in knysna as I was sitting in car keeping warm before start and came in 25th. So it can be done. Just a lot of hurt on the hills. Think was 2:10 with a 3min break to reattach cleats to shoes. So can be done. Big groups help more on road events.
