I would say - find a new partner....

You have to consider that over 9 days, you will have bad times (maybe many) and having a partner who will either help or encourage you to keep moving is a great benefit.

Remember - one small upset stomach, and you might need to look them in the eye again the next day... best you get on ok, and have a sense of humour on hand..... at all times.

I would not change my partner for low 7 figures in cash.... might consider it, but probably not....

Agree with V12 here.

Riding together might not be a problem now but it will become a problem over 9 days.

Don't forget.... you have to share a tent too.... not just ride....

and we all know what happens in the tent stays in the tent.

With the exception of the noise.

How difficult will I make it for myself if me and my partner don't quite get along?

Very. Don't go there. Lots of the enjoyment of this race is the suffering together, and enjoying together. You spend almost 24 hrs a day for 9 days with your partner, and makes massive difference to get along and support each other.

+1

Did the Epic with a good mate and that turned a bloody boring race into a cool adventure.

Not 100% percent necessary - Joberg2c 2013 had like 20 hubbers racing and was heaploads of fun with or without partner.

Always better experiencing stage racing with a good mate though...

Thanks that makes sense. What I actually meant was that if I enter with someone and we don't quite get along from the start, how crap is the 9 days going to be overall bearing in mind I have to ride with him everyday and spend the afternoons with this person as well?

Then I wouldn't do it... If that's how it is now you will wanna kill the bugger when he farts in the tent on night 1.

9 days is a long time to be that close to someone you don't really get along with.

If he dilly dallys and wants to stop when you wanna go, it's gonna piss you off.

As much as I get along with my other half we won't do a stage race together, in 2012 J2C all communication was done by looks after the first day. I wanna stop, grab a chow and go... She wants to talk **** and kuier, I wanna get to the end and suip beer.

Choose your partner carefully

Sounds like you ready to pull the trigger DO IT

You know you want to, must say I need a target, or a incentive to get my fat ass into gear

Howdy All

OK, have managed to get a team entry with a mate who secured a sponsorship slot!

We'll be easy to spot on the route- likely to be the only guys with bikes >5 yrs old (one a hard tail) and consistently back of the pack.

Seriously though, we're in it to enjoy it but I DO NOT want to suffer through it. I think my biggest challenge will be a chronic snorer for a tent mate (warning, pitch yours at the ooother end of the camp). We have both just started training, or rather riding more regularly and with more dedication. BUT, I'm in Pretoria and he's in Durban, so does anyone have any suggestions for races/rides halfway between? Maybe Harrismith area?

I've entered the Route66 stage race as a prep, any hubbers doing J2C also doing the Route66?
