Some of these washing machines run at 330/360 :(

So what do these washing machines weigh? It is after all a power to weight game.......350W at 87kg makes for some good relative power value.

a bit off the current way the conversation is going.

did a ride with some ramps of between 6.5% and upto 9% last night.

on some ramps which lasted for some 5 min plus it feels as if the wheel slips on the powerbeam .

tyre = conti home trainer & pressure is 8bar. contact with 2 clicks to the tyre.

( i dont think the contact / resistance to the tyre can be increased - i tried upto 4 clicks and do not see any more pressure being applied to the tyre )

what do you say?

I have only ever felt it slip once and believe it or not, I think the tyre was too hard, ito pressure. When I take it to 8 bar on the dot I dont get any slips on any gradients with the normal two click contact instruction...just a thought.

Which type of IDT are u using?

I could average 229 watts yesterday for about 45 minutes (24km ride). Average Heart Rate was 161. average speed was 32.6km/hour and I weigh 79 - 80kg. Personally I think I would have averaged 35km if I rode outside. I use a Wahoo Kickr.

i too am hoping you are right cause lately i am not getting my usual road average, i am pulling amps to average 32km/h  i really hope the "training on a IDT is harder" rings true cause i am getting slower,,,,,on the IDT i guess i need to get out on the road

It is definitely harder. A month ago I averaged 30km/hour at an Ironman. That is non-drafting 180km for six hours. Yet on the trainer I nearly exploded riding not even 33km average for 45 minutes.

Ja well the local training group suffered a massive crash this morning. Mongoose!'s collarbone went and he needs total reconstruction by using bone from his hip. So I am pretty content to ride on my trainer for now thank you.

I think ones pedal stroke also suffers on the IDT, ride outside as often as possible I'd say.

I try and make a conscious effort to keep it smooth...I try and focus to imagine scraping dog poo from the bottom of my shoe...works well, as silly as it may sound

Ive also found that training on the IDT is harder and translates to faster rides when i get out on the road.

Ive found that on the IDT there is no break in pedalling so its a constant effort for the duration you ride where on the road you get to freewheel a bit or ease up on the effort when you going downhill without sacraficing on speed so much.

Ive also found that the IDT has taught me that i can maintain a high effort for that much longer out on the road. Example, The other day on a stretch of road i was riding along at a high pace for a good 5 minutes before i looked down and realised that my heartrate was sitting at 88%... where previously i would control my heart rate to keep it at about 80% along that same road.

All in all the IDT training is really increasing my performances on the road... so far money very well spent and to think my fiancee told me to buy it when i said we can use the money towards the wedding
