I've only been on my road bike for a month or so now...prefer the mtb. But need the skinny tyres and weight savings to do 70.3.

Question is, how long does it take to get used to a road bike geometry, and more importantly, how long does it take for a saddle to get broken in. My ass is killing me!

I've had the bike setup by CycleFit, so one can assume that the setup is accurate (or sufficiently close enough.)

Please help me and my ass with some advice.

Funny I was on my road bike this weekend too. 1st time since 94.7 last year and the 3rd time in the last year.

My 'new shoes' (counting rides in them [3], not time they have been lying around in my house [8months]) was still killing my feet.

I only did 2 loops of the cradle (60kms) and the only thing hurting (other than my feet) was my buttocks. My lower back pain a bit straight after I got off for a bit (was gone by the time I got home), but I know my stem is too long and also my body isnt use to that position. I actually have a spare saddle lying around (same one than on my mtb's), I will actually give that a try.

Must say, I did go ride alone and it was a bit cold, but I did enjoy being out on the road bike again. I actually always have that feeling after a ride "I should do this more".

It was freezing when I started. The mist was thick and the water was dripping off my helmet. I've got a shoulder injury which hurts from stretching out more than the mtb, but my sit bones are bruised!

mmm unless its a brooks you wont be breaking in the saddle. More time in the saddle will condition your rear, friars balsam will help here. Also strengthen you core to prevent back and should aches.

As mentioned earlier, why not try your mtb saddle?

If that does not work then dont be afraid to try move the saddle around (just make some marks / measurements so you can return it back to the orginal position if you have to at a later stage). You could try tilt it down slightly or up or make sure its level, move it slightly back or forwards or even move its slightly off centre (nose of saddle slightly left or right) Main idea is take tools with you on a ride and experiment with different positions.

Or if you can afford to buy another saddle, try an Adamo saddle....really good at taking pressure off the sit bone area

Also one important thing to remember is that you stand up frequently while on the mtb.

If cyclefit didn't recommend a different saddle, then stand uo more often on the road bike, shift around more while sitting, and always use chamois cream to prevent chafing

The saddle is a new Fizik Arione. Cyclefit were happy with it in relation to my flexibility. I reckon I'll play around with the positioning a bit. If all else fails, classifieds!

Sorry might be off topic, but where did you go ride?
