After burping that silly Continental X King on a tree root this weekend (and struggling to get it seated again, which we did with a struggle, but then it wasn't on straight and kept rubbing against the frame), I replaced it with a Nobby Nic Evo I had at home.

Anybody has relevant experience with this tyre in this apllication?

I would like to know about grip in wet / muddy conditions, grip on hardpack, longevity, etc.

Reasons why I'm asking these questions, I have no experience with Schwalbe tyres at all, only Geax and then the crappy X Kings.

Nobby nic is VERY grippy but has high rolling resistance. Unless you are riding in very muddy conditions constantly I would save it for a front tyre, and even then, only if the grip is needed.

Mine also wore down quite fast, and at the price decided not to go back. I also mainly ride XCM, so the high rolling resistance put me off.

I have Nobby Nics on Front and back of my Trance, and apart from what a lot of people say about them not being tough enough, I have never had a problem.

I do run them tubeless, but I use 2.5bar at the rear and 2.0bar up front. Maybe this is why they have survived?

So it will have to stay on the back then, untill I purchased a Geax Barrow Mountain or a Geax Gato.

Will compliment the Geax Saguaro at front nicely.

Great tyre in wet or muddy conditions but they roll like tractor tyres on anything else.

It actually feels like the wheels is sucking to the ground on hardpack.

Running mine on 2.3bar tubeless and have had no issues with them.Have not cut them on any rocky stuff and they seem to me lasting well.

Conti mountain kings roll so much easier than the NN but suck in the wet.

whats up with the high tyre pressures

I assume its because lower than 20psi on the front NN EVO Snakeskin, the tyre will experience quite a bit of "roll" on anything that's a bit offcamber and hit at speed.

Less than 25psi at the back on a NN EVO snakeskin, feels like imna ding my rim to kingdom come! Lol... Also, wears quickly on the back (pacestar compound) in my experience.

Oh, I'm 58kgs... Just by the way..

Run Racing Ralph front and Nobby Nic back, which was recommended to me. Then another clown told me i had it the wrong way around - menat to be Nobby up front.

Anyway irrespective, i prefer the Snakeskins as they overcome any issues wrt sidewalls.

Great tires, stick like Sh*t to a blanket.

Not sure about the rolling resistance bit - maybe thats why i think i am so unfit.

They do wear quickly, but the price is far outweighed by the grip they give. It costs more to fix the roasties from a wash out than to stay on the bike.

Other way round... use the NN on the front and the Saguaro on the back. Grip up front and pace at the rear.

I'm on a Giant anthem advanced 27.5, I run racing ralphs SS for races, and when out to have fun i switch to Maxxis Ardents, never run more than 1.6 bar - ever, and im 64kgs.

would like to add that i have never experienced problems running them at that pressure, sure i have bumped a rim when the body gets tired towards the end of a hard day, but never rolled a tyre etc..

That clown was right :)

The NN is a more aggressive tyre than the RR so swapping them around would give you less rolling resistance at the rear, and more grip on the front..

Your 1.6bar translates to about 23psi. So.....

I've rolled my front NN off the rim completely. Mavics 319s at jonkers Double black. Depends on the speed one carries, and if your hitting corners hard I suppose. Anything straight is okay for lower than 20psi, but if I know I'm getting rocks or tons of flats or offcamber corners then definately more than 20psi for me.

If opting to stay with NN, then maybe the Double defence would offer stiffer sidewalls for the front. But the snakeskin up front combined with low pressure, well I had a bad experience. 15-20psi upfront on a 2.4 NN should be okay, I keep it at 22psi, so pretty much the same as your 1.6bar. No dings on the front though.

22psi out back gives me pretty hard hits, rims can handle it at the moment, and so can the snakeskin carcass. But if I know I'm going to hit rock gardens then I go up a notch on the rear... 25psi - 28psi. Also, allows the rear to break loose easier when I need it to.

You know clever clowns. He was right. You want your grippiest tyre up front.

In other breaking news..... please refrain from using Nobby Nic's on your bike. The son of a beeeaaatch will literally bite you in the ass as it comes flying past while you are trying to negotiate the downhill on your rim.... that is all.

Nobby nic in front at 1.8 bar carried my 100kg frame around flawlessly on a mavic rim .Replaced with x-king [the bestest front tyre ] followed by maxxis ardent .There are many better tyres as a rear tyre like race-king ,crossmark ,saguaro .Vrendensteins are soft like babies feet .The best priced longlasting combo imo is ardent front and saguaro rear
